» li • - • ■» «. « s — »Ma íi’lfíT a •< J A B O U T TO W N Act One By Ken C o v in g t o n SEATTLE NIGHTLIFE Lord knows there are only 24 hours in a day and usually on Friday and Saturday nights, between 10 00 p.m. and closing, you will find Ken Coving ton (me) in someone's night club. I’ve spent the last couple of weekends in Seattle nightspots in order to put together a guide lot those who like to or would like to commute to "The Emerald City" in the name of fun and adventure. The bad news is there are usually only 4 to 6 hours for Prime Time Fun (10 'til 2 or 10 'til 41, and I had such a ball I only managed to make it to three of the seven major nightclubs in the area Here is my synopsis of the three and. according to the natives of "The Emerald City” , they are the best three of thdseven. The C o tto n Club 820 M L . King W ay. (2061 328 1333 // Nestled in the heart of the black community on Martin Luther King Way. The Cotton Club offers more room than any of the others It has a spacious dining room where the restaurant is located The restaurant offers just about anything your heart desires, save lobster The Disco has a room of its own. The cover is $5.00 and, though people make a place, the DJ is always in control of the atmosphere The music he plays is fine and probably would be better, if he wouldn't talk so much during the time I’m trying to dance I think he loves his voice, and, if I could pay $2.00 instead of $5 00, it might sound a little better to me. too. The highlight of the Cotton Club is their live entertainment This is in some ways comparable to their namesake of the Roaring 20's They have a full stage with curtains and broadway style lighting The seating is comtor table and adequate The service is almost better than the restaurant. Here are a few of the names that have graced the Cotton Club stage recently: Roy Ayers. Bobby Womack. Millie Jackson, The Manhattans and the list goes on I make it a point to list anything special that goes on there, so stay tuned * •//> •*• The H o lly w o o d U nderground 323 2nd (206) 443 0496 On the corner of 2nd sits a small glass entryway that seems too small to accomodate the line that is stretched halfway around the block. After get ting in ($3.00 cover! and descending the stairway, you immediately know it was worth the wait! Designed with nostalgic movie and projection room memorabilia, the minute you hit the last step you know why you came: To Party1 If you are living the single life, there seems to be many young men and women available to make life a little easier and to help dance the night away The DJ is one of the best Seattle has to offer, covering both hits of the past and present, keeping the atmosphere "All. the Way Live" There is also live entertainment every now and then. If you want to be alone and away from the action, private booths are available directly behind the stairs, and, due to the size of the crowd, there are two bars to serve you. In the firs t operation, surgeons used a piece of plastic to recon stru ct her jaw bone. When that failed, they went back in and used a piece of her own hip bone. Her body rejected the transplant. Sidney's is the place The only bad thing I can say about Sidney's is it closes at 2:00 a m I hope this is helpful to you. you did.
