M r. Ira M um - ford, a local minister and Urban 4-H Extension Agent, succumbed to a heart attack ending a life-long career of support to urban youth and senior citizens. M um ford, 65, was recently involved in a radio show called “ Gospel T rain ,” which was a highlight o f his Arts and Communication class where urban youngsters received hands-on experience in radio production. In January 1985, M um ford said in an interview, “ Urban 4-H has had a positive effect on kids. Children who were in the program years ago have children o f their own who are in the program today. I ’m proud to be a part o f that.” During Dr. M artin Luther King’s Birthday celebrations, M um ford helped popularize King’s, “ I ’ve been to the mountain top” speech. A Navy veteran, M um ford also related expe riences of Blacks in W orld W ar II. In his office at the King Neighbor hood Facility, M um ford headed the Urban 4-H project which provided area residents a variety o f services. Edna Robertson, coordinator of the N .E . Neighborhood Association, said, “ He was an inspiration to us all here at the King Facility. He gave us a £ b C' A lbina M inisterial A lliance 284 6023 THE M OUNT OLIVET BAPTIST CHURCH N . E.
