Aug. 3rd and 4th, 9 p.m . til 1 p .m ., 21 ft over The 1984 W ashington Park Sum mer Festival will ba featuring the Youthsound Choir and Band, July 31st, at 8:00 p.m. in the amphitheatre This free concert is one of many concerts to be held nightly in the Rose Garden Amphitheatre. The Youthsound Choral Ensemble, under the direc tion of Ken Berry, has recently performed at the Huh Center for the Perfor ming Arts in Eugene. Oregon, and at the Portland Art Museum's Berg- Swann A uditorium . This will be a perform ance that will enlighten all viewers. We invite you and your family to attend KBOO Crab Gumbo benefit dinner KBO O Com m unity Radio 90.7 will be presenting a special evening of programming entitled, "Amand- la N gaw ethu” , a South A frican Radio Teach-In. The program is scheduled for August 7th. from 8 p.m . to m idnight. P O S A F (P o rt landers Organized for Southern A frican Freedom) and American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) will be co-sponsoring this special program with KBOO. W ith the rise o f a larger Black electorate this past primary season more people are questioning the United States’ role in South Africa. We will be presenting segments on the following issues: A. History of South Africa; B. Apartheid what is it and how does it operate? Included will be a JAZMIN live interview with Dennis Brutus. An Exiled South African; C. The C ultural Boycott-The United States has urged a boycott of artists who perform in South A frica, why is it im portant? And who is part of it? D. Divestiture and South A frica's links to the rest o f the world. The economics o f South Africa and it’s support world-wide; E. Steve Biko-A radio play about Steve Biko produced by the Canadian Broadcasting C o r poration. We also will be presenting music and poetry o f South Africans and their struggles. Guests will include Avel Mayfield, Ben Priestly, Lennie Edwards, and A rt Alexander, among others. We urge the listeners to listen on August 7th, at 8 p .m ., so they can make up their own minds on the politics and reality of South Africa. Listener phone calls will be welcomed. The Street Music Band contains a mixture of pop. rock, funk and jazz The band has been self sustaining due to the dedication of the bend members. The band was formed about a year ago by Michael Seiche and Joe Mower who met at a Portland area music store Since then, the band has constructed one of the tightest musical groups found in North/Northeast Portland. The Street Music Band is a positive force in the community and is on their way to becoming recognized throughout the Portland area The six member Street Music Bend: Dan Bornhouser (guitar); Charles (Rhythm) Lewis (saxophone, vocals); Chris Williams (lead vocals); Joe Mower (keyboards); Rusty Cox (drums), and Micheel Belcba (bass, vocals) The Street Music Band will be performing at the Eldorado Club (Union & Alberta) July 25th through 28th and at Jamie's Place 113th ft Fremont) August 3rd and 4th 555 A rts & crafts faire scheduled BAND T M I J A 2 /IIS T MANO H» TO W N ' 288 6708 A Public Service of the Portland Observer Artists, gardeners, cooks, jewel ers, hobbyists, and all other en trepreneurs are invited to take part in Providence Medical Center’s third Arts & Crafts Faire and Flea M arket on Saturday, September 8th.
