tists at the Second A nnual W o rld M usic Festival. July 21st and 22nd at the
C atlin G abel S c h o o l These artists w ill p ro vid e P o rtla n d e rs a rars o p p o r­
tunity to trace Black music fro m its roots in Africa to A m erican urban based
electric blues. List o f perform ers include: Singer and songw riter Taj M ahal;
tha Traveling Blues R eview , w h ich consists o f eleven to p blues m usicians
fro m across th e n ation w h o s e musical artistry and e x perien ce spans sixty
years o f B lack b lu e s , w ith th e D a v id " H o n e y b o y " E d w a rd s B and fro m
C h icag o fe a tu rin g Eddie T aylo r; also fro m C h ica g o g u ita ris t J im B rew er;

M am a) is o ne o f Portland's hottest m usical groups w hich has m ade a nam e
for itself, not only locally, but nationally as w ell. Q uarterflash is to appear on
the m ainstage at 6 p m . T h e group will be adding three fem ale vocalists for
this p erfo rm a n c e , S an d ra S im m o n s , Linda H o rn b u ckle and Lyndee M a h ,
all w ell-kn ow n vocalists th ro u g h o u t the Portland area.
J im B r e w e r , blind since an early age. plays guitar in the style of Big Bill
Broonzy. Born in Mississippi in 1920, Jim learned guitar at an early age His
fam ily m oved to Chicago in 1939 w here Jim becam e a fixture on Chicago's
fam e d M a x w e ll S tre e t for m o re than 20 years In th e 1960's, Jim B rew er
w as "discovered " by college students in the Chicago area N o w in the 8 0 ’s,
Jim is playing the best guitar of his career, thrilling blues fans all over the
M id w e s t and East Coast Jim has beco m e one of the m ost respected ac
coustic blues guitarists in the United States
