A performance program o f Theatre W orkshop, sponsored by Portland Bu reau o f Parks and Recreation, The Musical C om pany’s production of M y F air Lady offers Portland's top talent including W illy Aw ard winner Peter Fornara, also Cyr.di Smith-English and three-time W illy winner, Gaynor Sterchi. M y F air Lady, written by Lerner and Loewe, adapted from George Ber nard Shaw’s Pygmalion, has been heralded by many critics to be the best musical ever written in America. This production, directed by David Smith- English, will host a 22-piece orchestra and a cast o f 35 singers, dancers and actors. In the midst o f increased interest and support for theatre in Portland, The Musical Company offers the community a new company focused solely on musical theatre that is community based, drawing support and stability from Theatre W orkshop, a city-sponsored program, producing theatre for Portland since 1949. _____ K i Video Soul Music video recordings have become the latest commercially successful craze for the recording industry. Artists who are featured on one of these h -tech videos are sure to be hot sellers on the industry’s charts. Yet, except for a handful o f Black artists, this medium, led by the highly successful M T V , has been dominated by white singers. T o fill this void, and provide an outlet for the many talented Black re cording stars, Rogers Cablesystems' Channel 23, Black Comm unity Televi sion. announces that Lideo Soul will premiere as the First music program designed to appeal to the broad viewing interests o f Black consumers. The show will feature a crow section o f musical video clips, from Gospel to Reg gae. This is especially welcome news for Portland, which unlike other major markets lacks a Black radio station and, except for K B O O , little Black m u sic is heard over the air. Donnie Simson, morning man and program manager for W K Y S in Washington, and Sheila Banks, noted journalist, news correspondent and anchor for PBS' Washington affiliate will co-host Black Entertainment Tel evision’s (B .E .T .) new innovative music video showcase.
