"Slow Dance On The Killing Ground" The multi-award winning play, Slow Dance on the K illing Ground by William Hanley will open February 12th and run through March 20th at the Wilson Center for the Performing Arts. The production is being directed by Robert Markley, an 11-year veteran o f Portland theatre. Markley served as lighting designer in an award winning presentation o f “ Slow Dance” at Mt. Hood Community College in 1971. This contemporary American drama stars Steven Clark Pachosa. Nancy Benner and Rick Jones. Pachosa, winner o f the 1980 Willamette Week Best Actor Award for his portrayal o f Dylan Thomas, brings 15 years o f theatri cal experience to his role o f Mr. Gias. Nancy Benner reprises her role o f Rosie which she performed in the Mt. Hood Community College presenta tion, thus bringing an 11-year perspective and involvement to the current production. The part o f Randall w ill be portrayed by theatre veteran, Rick Jones, recently applauded for his compelling performance in Storefront Theatre’ s Short Eyes. The role o f Randall is acclaimed as the “ modern. Black Hamlet” and is a rare and solid vehicle for a Black actor to perform subtle and powerful work in an extensive role. The play and its author are the winners o f three Broadway awards during the years 1963-1965.
