Walter C. Reynolds. Bob visited his m other, Mrs. Elise Reynolds, incapacitated by illness now but who was formerly a leader in clubwomen’s circles. Bob also went to Eugene to see a M c A rth e r C o urt basketball game between University o f Oregon and U niversity o f C a lifo rn ia at R iv er side. Bob starred in basketball and football ai U o f O in his college days and he watched the play with some feeling. Benjamin is coordin ator and instructor o f human ser vices at the Cascade C am pus o f Portland Community College. M rs. B enjam in, a graduate o f Southwestern Louisiana Institute and a native o f L afa ye tte, Louisi ana, also holds a degree from Port land State University. She resides in Portland with her husband A lton, a Consolidated Freightways driver salesman, and their 16-year-old daughter M oin a. She is an active community worker and was awarded the “ W om an o f A ccom plishm ent” award by the Oregon Journal in 1963. She currently serves on six d iffe r ent boards including the school ad visory board for Jefferson H igh School, and has published one book, Hom e Is Where The Care Is. E She said the human services pro gram as it is set up now (at PCC) o f fers a certificate after one year and an associate o f science degree upon com pletion o f the tw o-year p ro gram. According to Benjamin, she is not advocating that everyone in the Black community take advantage of the program but. ” 1 think there is a need for Blacks to come in and look at these services." Human services, as she explained it, ” . . .is a helping profession. And the people who belong in any help ing profession have to have the m otivation and desire to help others." In addition, she said, “ They have to be people who understand them selves— know themselves— because you can’ t give what you d o n 't have." Reaganomics is making us realize That we need to share our love and resources in order to survive. I w ill not take a stand whether it is right or wrong For our government to make us stand on our own.
