After passing the interrogation, I went to claim my luggage and headed for the exit. 1 got about 10 feet from the exit door before 1 was stopped for a second time. The air port o ffic ia l this time wanted to look inside my luggage. I began to unload the cart as the o fficial in spected my bags. The o ffic ia l searching my luggage was not the same one who interrogated me upon my arrival. After a complete inspec tion of my luggage, the official told me I was free to go. The luggage in spection took less than five minutes and appeared to be routine and I was not harassed as before, al though there were people behind me and also in front o f me going through the line without being in spected. After leaving the airport 1 had no other problems with govern ment officials. Once outside the airport the next task was to get a taxi. In Israel a cab driver can be fined if he or she asks you if you need a cab. It is the re sponsibility of the passenger to soli cit the cab driver. Before getting in to the cab I explained to the driver I wanted to go to Jerusalem, but after I got in, 1 told him to take me to Di- mona. After being harassed inside the airport terminal 1 wanted to be sure that 1 was inside the cab and on my way before I told the driver that 1 was going to Dimona and not Je rusalem. The driver said, “ No prob lem, just sit back and enjoy the ride.” He spoke English and had a good supply of American music on eight-track tapes. With a combina tion of the American music (Grover Washington Jr.) and the kindness of the cab driver, 1 was able to relax from the experience at the airport. Travel time by taxi from Tel Aviv to Dimona is about one hour and 45 minutes. It appears that it is the govern ment o f Israel that is causing the problems for the Black Hebrews of Israel. Time after time I saw cases where the Black Hebrew people were warmly accepted by the people o f Israel. The problems seem to be with the Israeli government o ff i cials. While touring Israel I visited the two geopolitical triangles o f “ L e b a n o n - Is r a e l- S y r ia ” and “ Jordan-Israel-Syria.” The geopo litical triangle is a triangular area where the countries of Lebanon, Is rael and Syria come together geo graphically. There is also a triangle formed between the countries o f Jordan, Israel and Syria. The geo political triangle is considered to be the front line and fighting could have broken out at any time. The Black Hebrew people took me into these areas as a demonstra tion of their ability to travel the land without fear or denial. While in the Israel-Jordan-Syrian triangle, we were approached by the Mossard. (The Mossard is the Israeli intelli gence force and is » counterpart to the C IA in the United States.) The Mossard only recommended that we leave the area before sundown. This area is considered to be the front line and the Mossard officials were concerned that we not be in the area after dark. There were several military check points throughout the routes in the geopolitical triangle, the West Bank and other points. As a group we were never stopped once or ques tioned by the military soldiers while touring. I thought not being stopped was very unusual but the Black He brews of Dimona seem to travel the land freely. At several check-points the military soldiers looked toward the vehicle and said, "Dimona with all love and respect,” and then gave us the OK to travel on without ask ing questions or stopping us to search the vehicle. The inspecting of my bags, the interrogation as to my purpose and destination all ended when I departed Tel Aviv's Ben Gu- rion Airport for Dimona.
