Post Director, Engineering and Contracts SALES POSITION School Board keeps police (Continued from Page I Col 3) Steve Buel, who voted against the suspension, said there is racism in the police bureau and in the schools but the School Board is attempting to deal openly with the problem. “ I haven't seen one open admission or open approach to dealing with racism in the police b u re a u .” Stating that the actions o f the Board July 2nd when the newly elected Board plans to close Adams High School, w ill be racist and will set back the Board’s progress in dealing with racism, he said, ” 1 am em- barassed to criticize the police when we're going to do the same thing next week.” A summary o f C JO activities provided to the Board gives the goals of the program as: • T o devleop in young people a positive attitude toward the police. • To develop in young people an acceptance o f individual responsi b ility among the police, students, faculty and the community. Since O ctober the CJOs have served the 44 schools w ith 6th through 8th graders (except Boise and Tubman where parents rejected the program). The 14 officers made 2,630 full-length class presentations to 6 3 ,123 students. In addition, they participated in various school ac tivities, field trips, and were present in the building and on the grounds.
