The Oregon Alliance of Black School Educators (OABSE) is sponsoring the Second Annual Fall Educational Conference on November 3rd and 4th at the Red Lion Inn, Jantzen Beach. The conference theme is “ The Challenge of Legal and Political Issues to Black Educators.” Friday’s keynote speaker is Legrand H. Clegg, California attorney, researcher, and co-author o f the work, “ The Black Roots o f King Tutankhamun." Northwest Service Center, in cooperation with the Northwest District Association, is sponsoring a panel discussion on ballot measures 6 and 11 (tax relief measures), 8 (reinstating the death penalty), and 10 (abolishing LCDC) on Thursday, November 2nd, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Northwest Service Center Auditorium located at 1819 N.W. Everett. Moderating the event will be Ben Padrow from Portland State University. Speaking on the above measures and answering questions w ill be: Mayor Neil Goldschmidt, Congressman Robert Duncan, former-Governor Tom McCall, Tonic Nathan (Chairperson, Libertarian Party o f Oregon), John Alltucker (Chairman, Citizens Committee to Protect Our Land), Ray Robinett (Washington County District Attorney). An exploration of alternative healing methods w ill be offered in a "H olistic Healing Celebration" at the Portland Downtown YW CA, October 28th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eleven workshops are being presented by local specialists in the fields o f chiropracty, acupuncture, palmistry, massage, naturopathy, polarity therapy, mid-wifery, homeopathy, iridology, nutrition, meditation, and stress reduction (223-6281). The Pacific North west Twisters, the consolidated Portland area team, invites Portland to the First U.S.G.F. sanctioned Class III Regional Invitational for girl gymnasts. It will be held on October 28th at the Tigard High School Gym nasium. There will be morning and afternoon pre-lim sessions for the sixteen invited teams with finals held that evening. The performing teams come from Hawaii, Montana, Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. A Film documenting 170 years of Black history in Oregon w ill be presented “ free to the public on Wednesday , November 15th at noon. The Film highlights such events as the First Black settlers, the exclusion laws, and the Vanport flood. Filmmaker Ed Geis will talk about the making o f the Film. Allen Temple hosts Homecoming Allen Temple C.M.E. Church at Northeast Eighth and Skidmore Street w ill celebrate Homecoming Day on the Fifth Sunday, October 29th.
