Grandmothers compete each year in the sale of NAACP Freedom Seals. Mrs. Williams sold 87.000 for $870. According to Reverend John H. Left to right Louis and George Johnson THE BROTHERS JOHNSON • * • When Quincy Jones discovered George and Louis Johnson doing studio back-ups he immediately picked up their contract and signed them with him. Jones put in motion a 28 city tour selling out 25 cities. The tour was billed as “The Musical World of Quincy Jones." along with Brothers Johnson. Wattsline. Quincy Jones Dancers, and a 20 piece youth orchestra. It marked the first tour for Quincy in over ten years. This was the initial exposure of the Brothers Johnson - they were so well received on the tour that Jones included them on his Platinum album "Mellow Madness". Quincy has been quoted as saying, “1976-77 has been the most creative period in my career, working with George and Louis Johnson.“ After working over fifty new tunes with the Brothers Johnson, Quincy produced, conducted and arranged their first album, “Look Out For which later turned Platinum. The Brothers Johnson's current smash hit, “Right On Time" has passed Gold and is on its way to Platinum. If you happen to be one of the lucky 3.000 people who attended their first (and certainly not last) Portland performance then you know exactly where I'm coming from. As many concerts as I've attended over the past couple of years, I can count the times that I’ve seen an audience so engulfed in a performance! With most performers you’ll notice a gradual increase during the concert. Not so! With Brothers Johnson they get right down to it - and do it! They performed a couple of tunes from their #1 album. But most of the selections were from their latest "Right On Time." “Running For Your Lovin," “Free Yourself, Be Yourself," “Q" (for Quincy) “Right On Time.” “Love Is,” and more. Oh Brother! What a show! SEVEN COME ELEVEN. Every Mall bus stop will have a large, backlighted sign showing the symbol of buses serving that stop So. in just one AALON • • Aaion is a relatively new group on the scene, but their potential at this time is immeasurable. There is obviously a lot of talent within the group - the keyboard player was a stand-out during the set along with the bass guitarist. As with most new talents, they’ll have to iron out some of the kinks in their overall performance. But mark my words land I'm seldom wrong) they will definitely be a group to reckon with in the future - if they remain together and just keep on giggin! The Keep Christ in Christmas Committee will present its 25th Annual Advent Festival in the ballrooms at the Hilton Hotel on Sunday, December 11th, from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m The true meaning of Christmas, of the Celebration of Christ's Birthday, will be depicted in song, story and art displays, demonstrations and music, puppet theatre and live nativity. Musical group participation includes: Salvation Army Concert Band, St. Anthony's Boys Choir, Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church Choir, Queen of Peace Folk Choir, Tabor Heights United Methodist Bell Ringers. St. Andrews Catholic Church Gospel Choir, Parkrose Heights Children and Youth Choir, Youth for Christ ’Beginnings' Group, St. Mary's Singing Group, several selections by various Campfire Caroling Groups, harpists and recorders will play at the live nativity scene and "His Puppeteers" will perform several times during the day. Keep Christ in Christmas Committee is sponsored by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon. Holy Name Union, Church Women United and Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women.
