On hand for the festivities will be a galaxy of stars from both the entertainment and sports worlds. Included among the headliners slated to be on hand are Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Olaen, Loa Angeles Karns' Jim and Jack Youngblood. Lawrence McCutch eon, ex Ram Dick Bass. Deacon Jones, ex Dodger Tommy Davis, comedian Caro, actress Gail Fischer. O.C. Smith. Minne sotta Vikings' Amad Rashad. Also all-time running back great Jim Brown, the Smith Brothers Bubba. Toby, and Willie Ray Smith, Pittsburgh Steel era’ Lynn Swann. Rams’ Isaiah Robert son, Los Angeles Lakers' Cassie Russell and Kareem Abdol Jabbar. Of course the guest list goes on and on - these are just a few of the headliners who will be on hand to salute "Shack '. Eventhough basketball season has been over for Phoenix for quite some time their amazing rookie is still accom p lin h in g amasing feats. In his rookie season, and he’s not even rookie of the year. Ronnie Lee has earned a feature story in the July issue of Sport magazine. Apparently Lee has won the position of most popular player in Phoenix, far being what one fan termed “one guy who’s gonna kill himself to get that ball.” Lee's antics of diving for loose balls, barreling to the basket, picking up offensive fouls, and setting murderous picks, which per manantly endeared him to Oregon fans, has worked to the same effect on the Phoenix fans. Lee's style of play resem bles the endurance of a young John Havlicek with the exuberant hustle and desire of a Norm Van Lier. According to Scott May of the Chicago Bulls every team has to have a gutsy player and Phoenix has their s in the incomparable Ron Lee. Irving Park's tournament for thirteen year olds is underway. The thirteen year olds representing Pacific Northwest Bell coached by Ron Sykes and runner-up in this years league championship are. as coach Sykes says, “are a pleasure to coach.” They are Kenny Henry, Mike Davis, Henry Scott. Jeff Williams, Gordy Loving. Keith Woods. Andre Hurst. Charles Johnson. Cedric Allison. Duane Tyner, Gerome Patten. Terry Orr, Dar rell Ross. Anthony Camel, and Terry Butler. P.N.B. plays Lakeside Saturdat at 5:00 p.m. at Concordia College. A strong entry in the All Star tourna ment for 14 and 15 year olds, is the League Champion Portland Observer team coached by Jim Brown. PO plays Monday at 12:00 noon at Irving Park against Lakeside. Then came the time when the Tornado found their way through the Timber defense and within striking range. It took a diving save by Portland keeper Mick Poole to deflect Gerd Stahl's shot on goal. The dive, however, left Poole out of position to even have a chance to stop John 0*Hare's shot, at 66:24, which tied up the game 1-1. From there the game went into over time where both teams came up empty in the two seven minute halves. Dallas then determined the win in a shoot out. While both teams first and fourth players were successful, and second and third failed, it was Dallas' fifth man, O’Hare. who decided the match by converting on his shootout attempt. Two days prior to the Dallas match, Portland lost on the road to the Chicago Sting by the score of 2-1. A 1-0 victory on Sunday. Sheriff Martin indicated that this extension was to allow more time for encouraging qualified applicants to apply, particularly minority group members. July 19th at 2:00 p.m. The series illustrates how crime is historically a factor of rapidly changing societies; how it differs from culture to culture; how different societies cope with it; whether there could ever be a perfect crime-free society. The series also deals with political crimes like torture, terror ism and hi-jacking. Program materials lor the aeries was drawn primarily from the Fifth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime held in Geneva and at the Ameri can Society of Criminology meeting in Toronto. The first program of the series, entit led “Crime and Culture”, contrasts con cepts of crime betweeen Europe and North America, and the older, more homogenous societies which are general ly more peaceful - even the ones that are poor and overcrowded.
