Mxlkmnx Johnson, Pamela Thomas and Loretta Wilson. who call themselves Ms , first emerged on the entertainment scene in December of 1976. Some years had passed since voice, beauty and talent had been combined with one purpose in mind, to satisfy an audience And satisfy they did, both of their performances were answered with standing ovations from the crowd. At that time it was known that this group was destined to zoom to the top. It all started in June of 1976 when New Talents Unlimited (Production & Promo tmn Company' held open auditions for local talent. Out of those auditions four young ¡adies were chosen to form a uniquely different type of singing group. One of the ladies had to leave the group for personal reaons and another moved out of town. It was at this point that the producers of N.T.U. introduced Pam. Donna and Loretta to each other. The rest happened very quickly. Once in a while a group comes along that makes all others sound pale by compar ison. Ms. is one of those groups It would be easy to describe Ms as a vibrant, yet versatile, soaring and somewhat sassy But it goes beyond adjectives. Perhaps in some long-lost Language there is a phrase that adequately describes what these three ladies bring to the stage Individually each of Ms members is talented in her own right. MaDonna Johnson was born in Portland. Oregon. She attended the Martin Luther King elementary school where she was voted the best first soprano in the school choir her eighth grade year. Ms. Johnson went on to Grant High school where her interest in music was broadened. She is now a music major at Portland Commun rty College Her goals are “to make it to the top in the music industry and then to become a vocal instructor." She sings lend. 1st and 2nd soprano. Loretta Wilson, the newest member of this group, was born in Fort Worth. Texas but then moved to Portland. Ore. at an early age. She began to sing in the fifth grade at Woodlawn elementary school. Ms. Wilson attended Jefferson High School where she won several talent contests for both dancing and singing. She later attended the University of Portland where she majored in Art. Ms. Wilson's goals are “to headline at a major hotel in Las Veg*. Nevada and to be rated Number One Female Group by the top five trade magazines at the sametime." She sings lead. 1st and 2nd soprano Pamela Thomas was born in Bakers field. California, and comes from a musi cal family. Her mother was a well respected vocalist in both the California and Seattle areas. Pam attended ele mentary school in California, then moved to Portland m the fifth grade, where she met and became friends with MaDonna Johnson Ms Thomas attended Adams High school and she is presently attend ing Portland Community College major ing in Dance. Her goals are to win a grammy in three or more categories in the same year. She also says. “Above all else 1 just like to sing." Ms. Thomas sings lead. 2nd soprano and alto. There are two simple virtues that separate the extra-ordinary from the ordinary: dedication and hard work. Ms. possesses the kind of dedication that produces the identifiable excellence to welcome the challenge ot hard work willingly. The magnitude of these three ladies is yet to be determined or tapped. Feels S* Good and Mister Magic, have achieved gold status, with the latter becoming a jazz classic. A Secret Plnea. his new album released last month, is yet another milestone in the continued growth of a gifted artist. Grover Washington. Jr. is the focal point and major drawing card for the CT1 Jazz Festival, an extrem ely popular annual event that played to sold-out houses in eleven major West Coast cities last summer. His own live performances are attracting a growing legion of follow ers and reveal a warm vitality and quiet strength, as well as musical virtuosity on a range of instruments. His albums and five performances have featured the creme de la creme of jazz talent, including Bob James. Ron Carter. Ralph McDonald. Harvey Mason and Eric Gale.
