Oregon I-egal Services is seeking a director for its co m m u n ity ed u ca tio n project. The project is cur rently staffed by a director and a media specialist who provide clearing house and materials development for fourteen legal services pro grams in Oregon and num erous low income groups. The major task of the director is to coordinate a statew ide community ed ucation project by .involv ing the client community in its development. The project attempts to reach low income persons through video, radio, TV, n ew sletters, publications and community organiza tions, and by working closely with each legal services of fice and the Oregon Clients Council. The position de mands a highly motivated and imaginative person ex perienced in grant writing, publication development and community organizing. Starting salary is $12,000, although additional funds are being sought to raise this salary. A target date of July 26 has been set for hiring. PSU classes study city "Portland - The City" is one of several package programs offered by Portland State University this summer. Courses in chemistry, geography, ur ban studies, history and sociology will be offered in the Portland package. Some of the featured courses include: • “Physical Environment of Portland." which will examine the rainfall pattern, how people change the climate of the city, pollution, the water supply, the possum in the city, causes of the city's sounds and smells, flora and its origins, and how d e c isio n s a ffe c tin g P o r tla n d 's e n vironment are made. Guest lecturers will be involved. • “Portland on a Pass,” which includes seven days of study in the field via a Tri-Met bus pass. This popular class was filled during advance registration but there is a waiting list, according to Sum mer Session Director Charles White. • “Portland A rtifact and Archive," which will interpret the man-made en vironment as a living museum of history. • "Comparative Urban Problems," which will compare problems of Euro pean cities to American cities, with parti cular focus on Portland. • "Future of Mass Transit," which will examine the issue in the United States as well as its development in Portland. • “Historic Preservation Workshop,” which will focus on the history, use and rehabilitation of public monuments. Ex tensive walking tours of downtown Port land will be included. The study packages have been design ed so students may take several courses without time conflicts. General registration day is June 21st. Formal admission requirem ents are waived during summer session and regi stration continues up to the day the class starts without late fees. There is no out - of - state tuition and senior citizens may take classes at no cost. Evening classes will be dismissed before the final Tri-Met runs. Women study business The Small Business Administration in cooperation with Portland Community College will present a Beginning Business Workshop especially for women at Jant aaa Beach Shipping Center in Portland on June 29th. The workshop is free and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Carousal Room and is designed to assist women who are interested in starting^ business of their own or who are new in their own business. Scheduled to speak are local business and professional women includ ing a CPA and an attorney. They will discuss success and failure factors, re cordkeeping system ^, m arketing and safes, money management, and business law.
