Pointer Sis ters, Kool and the Gang, Miles Davis, Modern Jazz Quartet; sound like some thing big? Well it is! The Y-SOL Music Flow". All ot these artists and many more will be discussed, looked at, and talked about in the new Y-SOL music column. We hope to inform you about Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, and Gospel Soul in the A lb ina co m m u n ity , and throughout the nation; what is happening with the latest 45's, albums, recording art ists. and groups: how you as the people feel the music is going; and what is happening here in Portland. Y-SOL is a small current radio station located in the heart of the Albina com munity. Our programming is strictly R & B. Jazz. Gospel, and all related music in the R & B category. We offer the only complete Soul Music radio in the state of Oregon, and we want you to be part of it. In the upcoming weeks we will let you know what is happening with Y-Sol radio: our record contests, benefits, the Y-Sol Top Soul 20, and many more other things deal ing with the music scene. It is important to know that we are a youth pro gram, with our primary staff made up of youth in high school, college, and youth adults from the Model Cities community. We have only one full time position, plus 4 part time positions. The rest of our staff is composed of student volunteers. N.Y.C. workers, and participants in the C.E.P. program. All the persons in our program re ceive training and actual ex perience in the field of radio broadcasting: from D.J.'s to advertising, production and all related area's of radio work. We at Y-SOL radio work and think as a team. It is our thought that this col umn will be a composite of our ideas and thoughts of what Y SOL feels is hap pening on the music scene in Portland. You as the people must also feel that Y-SOL radio is your station, for without you we cannot exist. So next week stay tuned for the Y SOL "Music Flow" and the record contest. About 100 square blocks in New Orleans is know as the French Quarter This area still reflects the mixed blood of its French and Spanish ancestors who produced a group of people with the most aristocratic character istics of both nationalities, the Creoles. This fascinating area is where the nation's fishermen will prob ably spend much of their leisure time when they con vene together for the 7th Annual American Commer cial Fish Exposition. Their get- together will be more work than play, however, as they look, listen, and learn new and improved methods of catching, processing, freez ing, canning and transporting fish and shellfish to con sumers everywhere. One of the foods the hard working fishermen will un doubtedly enjoy will be World Who's Who of Women (19731 published by Melrose Press of England; she is the recipient of a docum ent authenticating inclusion. An accountant and poet who writes under the name J.M. Gates, she is the author of three poetry collections and volunteer editor of a periodi cal of reversible poetry. Earlier this year. West Virginia State College con ferred the honorary Doctor of Humanities degree upon Mrs. Gates, who joins pre yious recipients including J u stice William D ouglass, Mrs. Mary McLeod Bethune. Clean, wash and dry fish with paper toweling. Brush inside and outside of fish with French dressing; arrange in shallow dish. Cover and refrigerate one to two hours brushing French dressing over fish several tim es. Combine crumbs, butter or margarine, fine herbs, paprika, instant onion, salt, and celery salt; mix. Roll fish in crumbs; arrange on well oiled shallow baking pan. Bake in moder ate oven. 35ü° F., 30 to 35 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork. Serve with Bearnai.se Sauce; garnish with lemon slices, if desired. Makes 6 servings. Béarnaise Sauce 3 tablespoons cider or wine vinegar tablespoons finely chopped green onion •A teaspoon salt Dash pepper 3 tablespoons dry w hite wine or water 2 teaspoons minced parsley 3 egg yolks •/> cup melted butter or mar garine */i cup salad dressing 2 Combine first 4 ingredients in saucepan. Simmer gently until almost all of liquid is evaporated. Stir in wine and parsley; set aside. Beat egg yolks until very thick. Add butter or margarine in a fine stream, a small amount at a time, to egg yolks and beat constantly until m ixture thickens. Cook egg mixture in top of double boiler until thick and smooth, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in wine mixture and fold in salad dressing. Makes about U/i cups. There are some new faces at the Model Cities 4-C Day Care Centers. They are the people of the transportation department. Two drivers, Willie Brown and Thomas Williams, and two bus aides. Adams High School students Donnie Amado and Pamela Thomas, are taking eligible children to and from school each day. Formerly, this service was done by a pri vate company, but in order to improve service 4-C's de cided to take it over.
