A new 85 - page booklet, "B la c k Tourism in Mon tre a l,” describes v is ito r at tractions in one of the most popular destinations for Black American vacationers. The comprehensive guide, which puts pa rticu la r em phasis on M ontreal's soul food restaurants. Black boutiques, n ig h t-life and other Black en tertainment, also gives in fo r mation on the c ity ’ s hotels and motels, museums, parks, a rt galleries, and guided tour ser vices. Montreal, with a Black pop ulation of more than 40,000. has its own Black culture and organizations, but they are not readily discovered by the av erage v is ito r. The new to u rist guide, co- authored by singer-busmess- msn Luther Rice and jazz mu sician Eddie Anderson, grew out of th e ir concern fo r Black v isito rs who often stopped them on the streets of Mon treal to inquire about Black shops, restaurants o r night clubs. The popularity of Montreal among Black tourists started with Expo 67 when fa ir-g o e rs found that they were welcomed in the city w ithoutdiscrim ina- tion. Since then numerousU.S. tour operators and travel agents have brought a steadily increasing Black tourist m ar ket to Montreal. “ Black Tourism in Mon tre a l" author Rice looks fo r ward to a long-term goal of establishing a Black In fo r mation Center in downtown M ontreal. Meanwhile, he hopes to expand and update the new guidebook annually. FINANCIAL SPECLALIST I Bi-weekly $379.20 -$446.40.
