" In the hospital while I was waiting fo r treatment, a police officer questioned me and gave me a ticket fo r failing to cross in the crosswalk. I told him about my pocketbook but he said tie couldn't do anything about it. ’ B I he social w orker said they would have to wait a few days before they could give me some more ID. They did arrange to get some food from the ChurchM issionarySociety and, through Day Care I was able to get care fo r the children. A few days later I didn t feel the baby move, and they told me to come to the hospital. Thedoctor said the baby had died, the doctor Informed me that the baby would be stillborn, and 1 would need surgery right away fo r a hysterectomy.' M iss Sally X said that when she got home, she "g o t a notice to move in 30 d a ys." She, like all the residents of the building, was given 30 days notice to vacate. Checking into Sally X 's problem, it seems like everyone lasses the buck. The police officer thinks he acted properly in giving Sally X the ticket fo r jay walking; the landlord said, " I f she has seven kids, she has violated the lease.” The reporter, after hearing the entire litany of her m isfo r tune, said, "Now I know why the old Negro spiritual was w ritten, 'Nobody knows the trouble I seen.1 ”
