Gun mishap kills wife, 19 VANCOUVER. Wash. - A 19-year-old Clark County housewife was accidentally shot and killed hy her hus band Monday afternoon as she stepped into the line of fire while he shot at a bird outside the couple's home. Prounounced dead on ar rival at Vancouver Memorial Hospital was Mrs. Patricia Mi I.ellan of 3606 NW 166th St , in rural Clark Countv outside Vancouver. Sheriff's deputies said the victim's husband, John, 20. was shooting a .22 rifle around the front of their trailer house and apparently did not realize that his wife was in a small building adja cent to the trailer At the moment he lined up his sights and fired at a small bird, officers reported. Mrs. M c L e l l a n stepped around the corner. The bullet struck her in the head nnd she died before reaching the hospital. A study made by the Uni versity of Michigan shows that the majority of police officers are either "highly prejudiced, extremely anti Negro.” 38% or “ prejudic ed. anti-Negro " 34%. TTie U. S. Commission on Civil Rights pointed out m its report at 1961 that there are three categories of po lice violence: 1. Raeially motivated bru tality 2 Violence as pugp-hnient 3.
