One of the advantages to this system is that the children, some tim es fo r the fir s t tim e in mem ory, meet a doctor in a fa m ilia r environment w h e r e they have been having happy experiences and think of seeing the doctor as having a field trip at school. E a c h child’ s parents are en couraged to be with him to pro vide information fo r the doctor, assist in the exam, and add ex tra s e c u r i t y fo r the child. (Parent, pretend you are one of Linus’ s big security blankets and come enjoy the afternoon.) Headstart’ s transportation de partment fo r the event consists of M rs . Dorothy Lolley, the bus d riv e r, who s k illfu lly manipu lated the E.C.E. “ m ini-bus” (which, by the way, you should peek into if you get a chance as it is actually a roving gallery with a picture exhibit displaying a variety of scenes from tra ffic lights to caolye-eating children to pets-incidentally, she wel comes new additions to the in side a rt show) and the panoramic bus supervisor, M rs . Child * care w ill also be provided fo r the occasion. The arrangements fo r the “ Physical Day Program ” have been made by M rs.E thel Love, public school nurse fo r the E.C.E. program, who does her part to keep the children “ healthy” and leaves the “ happy” -and "w is e ” to the parfents and teachers. Everyone is delighted with the addition of Center 7 which is com pletely f i n a n c e d through the Model C ities program. If you ac cidentally walk into the old Area 2 fa c ilitie s at 4825 N. Haightand find the people have “ shrunk” to the size of four years olds, it is because you have independently discovered the new center. The staff in A u n i t , M rs . Juanita Holmes and her assistant, M rs. B illie Pouppirt, love th e ir room with kitchen fa c ilitie s and plenty of storage space. On the other side, in Unit B, M rs . Vickie Grace and M rs.
