MEDFORD, Or. July 20. (Spe dal.) An application for an injutic lion against the county clerk to pre sent holding a special election in lackson county Saturday, July 29, lor the purpose of voting on the juestion of the recall of Sheriff Ter ill, -was filed in the circuit court to lay and Judge Calking set Wednes day, July 26, as the date for hearing. C. E. Terrill, as sheriff, and W. G. aley, a pioneer rancher of th Oagrle Point district, and "all others who might be named as parties plaintiff," are named as plaintiffs. I. M. Lowe, recall candidate for sheriff; Kev. W. Judson Oldfield, pastor of the Congregational church of Ashland; Clay Walker, a former Wedford policeman; Howard "Hill, orchardist; John J. Hoogstraat, a kleagle of the local klan; George Ivorson, a carpenter; W. B. Hughes, proprietor of a vulcanizing works; Kay and Thomas E. Goodie, the de fendants, are alleged in the docu ment to be members Of the Ku Klux Klan. The application, which is exhaus tive, covering 11 typewritten pages, ibases its plea for an injunction upon the following grounds and allega tions': , That the recall movement is a Ku Klux Klan plot to procure con trol of the sheriff's office and that the plan to circulate the recall pe titions was formulated at a meeting of thp Rnniotv. of which nil nf th defendants were present, "with oth ers unknown," on or about May 30, and that it was inspired by the re ports and belief that a special grand jury session was to be called to probe the series of outrages in this county, "said society being com monly and openly charged with the responsibility therefor." That the 1921 grand jury report makes no charges of malfeasance, as persistently rumored. That no specific charge is set forth in the recall petition, and the sheriff is thus deprived of his con stitutional right of defense. That a systematic gossip cam paign has been waged against the sheriff. That the county clerk refused to remove the names of signers from the recall petition when requested to do so in writing; that the county clerk failed to notify the sheriff of the filing of the petition; that the sheriff is willing to submit the question, of recall to the voters at the general election, if specific charges are filed and the required number of qualified electors secured in signature thereto. Senators Favoring Acceptance of Muscle Shoals Proposal to Report Next Week. WASHINGTON, D. C, July 20 Rejection of Henry Ford's offer for Muscle Shoals- and enactment of legislation for development of the war-built projects in Alabama by a government-owned and govern- ment-controiieo. corporation was recommended to the senate by Chairman Norris of the senate agri culture committee. iis views were set forth in a voluminous report, portions of which were supported by various members or the committee. Sen ators Page, Vermont; McNary, Ore gon; Keyes, New Hampshire; Good ing, Idaho; Norbeck, South Dakota; Harreld, Oklahoma, and McKinley, republicans, and Kendrick, demo crat, Wyoming, the report stated, favored rejection of the Ford offer along with Chairman Norris. Sen ators MeNary; Norbeck, McKinley and Gooding, it was added, con curred with the chairman in the recommendation for government de velopment along the lines detailed in the pending Norris bill. Senator Kendrick declared in the senate after submission of the re port, however, that he "would be glad to approve the offer of Henry Ford, provided a modification is made of the time limit of the lease." The- Ford offer provides for a 10fl year lease, and Senator Kendrick said he favored a 50-year maximum. The report described the Ford of fer as "the most wonderful real es tate speculation since Adam and Eve lost title to the garden of Eden." - The report submitted today will be followed by another from the committee next week, presented by Senator Ladd, republican, North Da kota, and supported by those favor ing unconditional acceptance of the Ford offer. S Pa FARM NEIGHBORS CLASH Locking Up Heifer Resented; Each Asks Other's Arrest. VANCOUVER, Wash!, July 20. (Special.) When a heifer belonging to Hubert Savidge, a farmer living near here, strayed to the ranch of Archie Vogel, his next-door neigh bor, Vogel locked it up and demand ed damages for what destruction the young cow had- done. Savidge re sented this, so Visited his neighbor and told him he wouldn't stand for being held up that way. The two farmers argued a while and then came to blows. After fighting some time they both came to Vancouver and visited the office or the prose cuting attorney. Each wanted the other arrested for assault. Dale McMullen, deputy prosecuting attorney, told them he could not issue the warrants until he had investigated the case. SITES FOR HOME VIEWED Salem Enters Competition for Yeoman Children's Refuge. SALEM, fir., July 20. (Special.) A. N. Farmer, representing the na tional board of directors of the Yeo man lodge, today inspected a number of proposed sites for the children's home to be established by the order. The proposed home will cost $5,000, 000 and will be located somewhere on the Pacific coast. Following the inspection trip Mr. Farmer was entertained at a lunch eon given under the auspices of the Marion-Polk County Realtors' asso ciation. Heads of the various civic organizations of the city gave brief addresses.
