Inquest Thought Unnickssakt.
Deputy Coroner Goetach announced
yesterday that there will be no in
quest over the remains of Helen
Powers. S months old daughter of
Air. and Mrs. Roy O. Powers, 114
East Harrison street, who was acci
dentally electrocuted at the Powers
home late Sunday. The body was
turned over to Finley's establish
ment. Mrs. Powers was ironing with
an electric Iron when the little girl,
who was in a high chair nearby,
placed her hand against the electric
contact socket and was Instantly
electrocuted.
School, Directors to Take Offick.
Frank L. Shull and William F. Wood
ward, newly elected school directors,
will take part in their first bward
meeting Thursday night, when they
will be sworn in and the old board
will terminate its business. Follow
ing the custom which makes the
senior member of the board its chair
man. Director George B. Thomas will
probably be elected to this office. He
will serve for six months, to be fol
lowed in the chair by Director George
Orton.
Husband Complains Too Much.
Mirabel L. Suklis yesterday filed suit
for a divorce from Peter S. Suklis.
In her complaint she says he would
become so angry he would throw him
self on a bed, grow exceedingly pale
and mutter complaints about her.
Maude Rambo seeks separation from
Edwin Rambo, whom she married In
1904. She says her husband called
her names and knocked her down. She
asks custody of her four children and
money for their support.
Central, Union Gives Up Room.
The central union of the W. C. T. U.
has consented to give up the use of
the room in the central library for
the period of the University of Oregon
summer school, June 21 to July 30.
During that time meetings of the
union will be held in the homes of
the different members, for which an
nouncements will be sent out by the
president. There will be no meeting
th's week on account of the Shrine
convention.
Amended Complaint P'iled. Robert
N. Stanfield. millionaire sheep man of
eastern Oregon, is defendant in a suit
for $21,000 for alleged breach of con
tract brought by Storey &, Work,
commission agents of Bozcman, Mont.
An amended complaint, charging
failure on the part of Mr. Stanfield
to complete the sale of 1000 head of
sheep after he had agreed to do so.

court yesterday.
Kiwanis Editor Better. Roe Fulk
erson of Washington, D. C, editor of
the Kiwanis magazine, who has been
confined to his bed at the Multndmah
hotel as the result of an illness, was
reported to be so much improved yes
terday that he was able to sit up.
Physicians announced that Mr. Fulk
erson might be compelled to undergo
an operation, but he hopes to delay
it until his return home.
Dr. Hinson Speaks in Chicago. Dr.
W. B. Hinson, pastor of the East Side
Baptist church of Portland, addressed
the faculty, business staff and stu
dents of the Moody Bible institute of
Chicago, June 16, . on the subject,
"Fundamentals of the Gospel." Dr.
Hinson is one of the speakers at the
world conference of Christian funda
mentals which is being held in Chi
cago. Butcher Loses Two Fingers. Will
iam Werrher, 52, of 1062 East Morris
street, lost two middle fingers from
his left hand yesterday morning when
he was caught in a sausage machine
in a shop at Fourth and Yamhill
streets where he was employed as a
butcher. He was treated at the St.
Vincent's hospital.
Colored Moonshiners Fined. John
Johnson and John Williams, both
colored, were convicted in United
States district court yesterday of
violation of the prohibition law
Johnson was fined $250 and sentenced
to serve 30 days in jail. Williams was
fined $100.

Howard Goes to Prison. c. E.
Howard, recently convicted in federal
court of violation of the white slave
act and sentenced to six months at
McNeill's Island, was committed to
the prison yesterday.

Increase of Price.
That the rates on cooking and fuel
gas may be increased in the near
future was intimated at yesterday
mornings council meeting by Tingi
neer Krohner of the Portland Gas &
Coke company, when he took part in
the discussion relative to the new
isolation hospital at Kelly Butte.
Engineer Krohner was asked by the
council to give his opinion of the
most suitable type of heating appli
ance for the hospital.
In discussing the merits of the va
rious heating facilities offered by
his company, he hinted that it is
becoming difficult for the company
to secure fuel oil at present contract
rates. This might lead, he told the
council, to a marked increase in price
of oil. To overcome this condition,
his company might find it necessary
to revolutionize the gas making in
dustry in the city by the use of coal
instead of oil in the base. If such a
plan is carried out a slight Increase
in the gas rate might result.
The company has as yet made no
application to the public service com
mission of Oregon, whose duty It is
to fix the rates.
Action on the type of plant to be
installed at the hospital was deferred.

of Convention Show.
That theater patrons and vaude
ville artists may not miss the elec
trical parade tonight the Orpheum
show will be staged early. For this
occasion the picture sections of the
Orpheum show will be omitted, allow
ing one hour and a half for vaude
ville acts. On this schedule the show
will be started at 8 o'clock and
will be over at 9:30 o'clock, in
ample time for the Orpheum patrons
to see the electrical parade in its en
tirety from a downtown vantage
point. This arrangement makes it
possible for the Tuesday-night season
patrons of the Orpheum to see the
show and at the same time not miss
the parade.
The headliner of the convention
show Is Joseph E. Howard and his
new musical romance called "Chin
Toy." The act Is elaborately staged
and the dozen girls of the company
make several changes of costume.
Mr. Howard Is supported principally
by Ethelyn Clark, who changes from
one gorgeous gown to another as the
celebrated composer sings the most
popular of his song creations.
