Sept. 1!. (Spe cial.) The Initiative In the matter of urg-irr the reseedlrg of the burned over sections of the national forests in cen tral Idaho has been taken b' the Nes Perce county farm bureau, and the executive committee of the bureau adopted resolutions yesterday asking: the forestry department to take steps at once to reseed the burned over lands. Should the forests be left for volun teer reseedtng. the lands devastated by fire will be lost to use In the livestock Industry for a lona- period of years, yet th Immediate fall reseeding with the rrassea recommended as best by the ag ricultural department will -obviate the curtailment of grazing in the forest ranges, according to the farm bureau. Khvanis Willing to Give In. TACOMA. Wash., Sept. II. (Special.) The Tacoma Kiwanis club is setting Itself straight with Tacomans in gen eral by saying that it did not mean to take sides in the controversy over the name of the mountain when it indorsed i Rainier instead of the aboriginal name of Tacoma. The club in resolutions pub i lished today said that it merely wanted 1 to link Tacoma with the advertising of the national park, but if a successful 'effort could be made to have the Na l tlonal Geographic board indorse the ' name of Mount Tacoma the club would join In the plan to give it widespread publicity. Read The Oregonian classified ads. EXPERTS BACK RATE RISE Engineers Tell Commissions That Idaho Company Needs Money. LEWISTOX Idaho. Sept. 12. (Spe cial.) The applications of the Lewis-ton-Clarkston Transit company for an increase in fare from 6 to 7 cents has been heard by the state public utility commissions of Idaho and Washington, meeting in joint session at the supreme court building here, and the case has been taken under advisement. The testimony of the commission's engineers Indicated that the company was being prudently and carefully man aged, that its service was good and that it was operating under a less at the present rate. Their testimony also showed that 1f the increase asked for by the company was granted the maxi mum return that could be expected was 4 per cent on the capital invested, as fixed by the engineers' appraisal. Paved Street to Highway Ordered.. TACOMA, Wash., Sept. 12. (Special.) Pacific avenue leading to the road to Rainier national park will be paved at once, the council today authorizing pav ing to cost 1138.000. A minimum of 16 feet and a maximum of 0 feet is the width specified in the ordinance for the new roadway. T. W. C. A. Worker Goes East. TACOMA, Wash., Sept. 12. (Special.) Miss M. Belle - Jeffrey is closing up her work as secretary with the Y. W. C. A. in Tacoma and will leave this week for the east to attend a conference of the national Y. W. C. A. board prior to becoming field worker for the organiza tion in Oregon with headquarters in Portland. Miss Jeffrey has been at the head of the Y. W. C. A. work in Taco ma for several years and directed the work during the war period. Road Work Is Resumed. SALEM, Or., Sept. 12. (Special) After a four-day layoff, necessitated on account of the recent heavy rains, work has been resumed on the Salem-Stayton-Turner highway. This road is being paved under the market highway system in Marion county, approved at the special election held last June. 192 Pints of Beer Seized. YAKIMA. Wash., Sept. 12. (Special.) Yakima police officers yesterday raided a dwelling house on North Front street and seized 192 pint bottles of brewing the beverage. There were no home made beer and apparatus for ' arrests.
