Babies of Silverton, Or., 42 in number, were given a eugenics test July E under the auspices of Mrs. A. Bailey of the parents' education bureau of the Ore gon congress of mothers. The eugenics test was a feature of the patriotic celebration held at Silverton Friday and Saturday. The babies were brought, to the Sil verton high school for the tests, and each child was examined and rated by a board consisting of Dr. E. P. Shepherd and Mrs. Bailey of Portland and Dr. A. F. Blackerby, Mrs. John T. Hoblitt, Mrs. F. P. Risteigen and Mrs. E. R. Kkinan of Silverton. The purpose of the test is to find the defects of the children and to sug gest corrective steps which may be put into operation while the child Is small. The teslincludes examination of the ears, eyes, nose, throat and teeth, measurement of. the body and a gen eral mental and physical examination. The children scoring the highest tests in the various classes are as follows: Class 1, 6 to 12 months, Robert Yocum, age 7 months; class 2. 12 to 18 months, Alona Bnryl Loomls, aged months; class 3, IS to 2 months, Robert Adams, age 22 months; class 4, 24 to 36 months, Laura Anctta Hubbs. age 294 months. Highest Quotation Ever Known in Local Market Cattle and Sheep Are Steady. With only a moderat. run of hogs over Sunday and high prices prevailing every where, the local market saw an advance of almost a dollar in quotations. Top-grade hogs sold at the north Portland yards at $21.50. the highest price ever reached here. The bulk of sales were made at $21. Cattle, sheep and lambs were steady at last week's prices. Total receipts -of stock at the yards in the first half of the vear were: Cattle 49.R91 Calves 3.270 Hogs 127.60S Sheep 31,004 Horses and mules 1.2KS Cars 3.421 The Increases as compared with the first half of last year wre 873 cattle, 1321 calves. 28.G25 hogs, 32,300 sheep and 471 cars.
