' KLFISIt MARGUERITE CLARK "Silks and Satins." vfe Some Will Be Prosecuted by State, While Others Will Be Turned Over to Government Eight Captured la Raid. ST. MARIS, Idaho, March 20. (Spe claL) Th sorting of tha St. Marias L . W. prisoners Into two classes, those for Federal prosecution and those who will be charged with rcim Inal syndicalism, was begun today by Prosecuting Attorney Holsclaw, of Benewah County. Idaho.- In the meantime, the number of ar rested men is Increasing steadily as the crusades against th I. W. w. strongholds ar going; on peacefully but effectually. Captain Herman K. Taylor placed th number ox prisoners today at S3. which 27 are in the County Jail and 56 In the "bull pen." He Is planning to move the latter squad to the Sly block as the present building, a small pain shop, is not large enough. Coaaplalata ta Be Filed. "We will file complaints against each one separately," said Attorney Holsclaw, who returned to St. Maries last night after having been a tCoeur d'Alene preparing for the W. M. Nelson trial. "We will turn over to the Govern ment all Federal cases. This number will probably not be more than half the total. "The others, will be held on state rhArres- There ma v be some whom neither ihe Federal nor state officers want, but they will be few. We are determined to prosecute the leaders to the extent of the law. I have not diceded whether I will ask for a change of venu efor the trials." Voluntary appearances for passport examinations were insufficient to keep the examining boards busy thia morn ing. Each time a squad of Sand Point soldiers was sent out and returned with 10 or 12 members of the organi sation. There ar eless than 25 L W. W. in the city who have not been inter rogated by the authorities, it is said. Eight Arrested la Raid. Captain Taylor last night conducted a raid on the room beneath Mike Cola's tailor shop. Eight men were arrested, of whom four were later turned loose. Cola mas taken to military beadquar ters and forced to take the oath of allegiance. Charles Anderson, said to be a prominent agitator, was picked up after he failed to apply for a pass port. His credentials as an organizer were found upon him. Six men were brought in by the guards from Bronson's camp last night. Fernwood, called the "I. W. W. hotbed," gave only five prisoners- Only two possibilities, one or which la very remote, are seen by which the hack-breaking process of the Bene wah County authorities can be halted. The first is that some of the many L W. W. held there may attempt to bolt. The other and remote possibility Is hat some of the rumored immigrations of red card bearers will come. Gaarda Work Effeetlve. While the uniformed regular soldiers are probably the ones who first In- tilled fear Into the I. W. W. fores. et it remained for th Sand Point guards to do the real work. They are comparatively few for the task of cleaning up the county and at the same ime guarding the many prisoners. The officers believe the successful conclusion of the rrussde rests with the acquittal or conviction of the ring- j leaders held in jail and the "bull pen. It is feared, too, that a few of the chief agitators may escape through the guard lines by abuse of tha passport system.
