Tho people of Douglas County a few months alto initiated a movement which will have for ita cul mlnaliun the erection of a modern sawmill near Hose burg and the con (truction of a standard gauge railroad extending from the city to tbe western line of the Umpqua National forest re serve on the North Lmpqua River. The railroad will be about 30 miles In length and will tap the richest tim ber bolt In b'outhern Oregon. It will be of standard construction and will cost approximately SsOv.000.- The sawmill will have a daily capacity of 250.0 feet of finished lumber and will bring Kendall Bro.' total Investment here up to $1,125,000. The fruit Industry has also expanded la Douglas County during the past year and It la estimated that several thou sand young trees have been planted. Broccoli, which was Introduced here two years ago, has also become- a per manent product in Douglas County.
