The management of the Mazelwood Restau rant wishes it understood that It Is not implicated in ttu present butter in vestigation being conducted by J. D. Mickle, Oregon Dairy and Food Com missioner. The Hazelwood Restaurant was Incorporated live years ago. as the Cream Store, but has continued to use the name Haielwood, as the public would never call it by any other name. This restaurant Is a. free agent and can, and does buy Its supplies from the firms that are able to deliver the best food products. Solomon W. Fisher's Funeral Held. The funeral services of Solomon W. Fisher, who died at Sacramento, Cal., Sunday, were conducted yesterday from Holman's Chapel. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Mr. Fisher was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adm Fisher, pioneers of Columbia Souarh. He was 40 years old. He died a few days after an operation for ap pendicitis had been performed. He Is a brother of Mrs. Mary F. Canne. living on the Sandy road. Two other sisters and six brothers survive. Dr. Cardwell Is Improving. Dr. J. R. Cardwell, the dentist who was struck bv a Fulton car about a month ago and suffered a fracture of bis left leg. is improving as rapidly as could be ex pected for a man it years old. Yes terday his wife. Dr. Mae Cardwell. said that her husband was beginning to eat solid food. He had been' on a liquid diet since his accident. She says that he Is patient and brave and quite a philosopher, although suffering a good deal of pain. He has lost 25 pounds his wife says. T W. Rogers to Iecturb Tonioht. "The Evolution of the Soul" will be the subject of an address by I.. W. Rogers, lecturer for the National Theo- sophical Society, at Ellers recital hall. Broadway and Alder streets, tonight. Mr. Rogers has been delivering a series of lectures at the same place on theosophical subjects, his subject last night being "Thought. Power and Karma." Tomorrow afternoon, begin nlng at t o'clock. There are about 750 pupils attending the Sellwood school, and If part will respond to this call many homes may be made happy during Christmas. If parents desire, children may bring simple gifts, and all that is brought to the schoolhouse will be turned over to the Parent Teacher Circle for distribution. For the benefit of the smaller children as well as for those who cannot attend st night an exercise will be given Monday at 11:45. - Two BrarrENCED to Rockfiu. Oeorge Haven, alias Frisco Jlmmle. and Andrew McDonald were sentenced to serve 90 days on the rock pile for vagrancy yesterday In the Municipal Court. The men were arrested l nurs- day night by Detectives Coleman and Snow. The detectives say that Mc Donald was arrested here more than two years ago for helping to dispose of the loot obtained by Herbert DU Pllcy and William Johnson, when they robbed the Diamond Palace, at Broadway and Washington streets. Mo- Donald testified for the state, and was released. The other two men were sentenced to serve 16 years. Rosa Show Com mitt ess appointed. A rose show committee was ap pointed at the meeting Of the women's auxiliary of the North poruana torn mercial Club at the meeting Thursday night. In the branch library, to take bo the matter of holding the rose snow in Peninsula Park next year. A similar committee has been appointed by the North Portland Commercial Club. These two committees will meet the committee Of the Rose Associa tion In the near; future in an endeavor to have Peninsula Park selected a the place for holding the annual Rose Show. The City Commission yesterday by unani mous vote refused to grant permission to Mrs. Preston Smith, owner of the Buncralow Theater building at Twelfth and Morrison streets, to use the build ing for public entertainment. Objection to its' use was based upon the xact that the building inspection division of the public works department has In vestigated and reported that the build- in is built of wood ana is not compliance with the provisions of the building code regarding theater struc tures. Stofer Back From Grand Forks. Joseph Stofer. chief clerk in the Port land office of the Pennsylvania Rail road svstem, returned yesterday irom Grand Forks, N. P where he attended th funeral of his brother, Bernard Stofer, a student in the University of North Dakota, who died suddenly last week. Toung Stofer was an athlete and In apparent good health Just be fore he died. Heart disease was the cause. Firrx Dollar Reward Out. Sheriff Word has offered a reward of $50 for the capture of Tony Vugovltch, former ly proprietor of a restaurant at Sec ond and Couch streets, who escaped from the rockplle at Kelly Butte this morning. Vugovltch was arrested on August 2S by Officers Maas and Mc Carthy on a charge of larceny from the person. He was convicted and sentenced to serve 170 days on the rockplle.
