17 THE MORNING OREGOXIAN, WEDNESDAY. MAY 21, 1913. EUROPEAN RESORTS AND HOTELS PATIENTS AT CARLSBAD GET MUCH ATTENTION Dirt Is as Important as Healing Waters in Taking "Care" City Aothori- ties Supervise Service. ENT, LAND ENIJLAM) ExeiA.Ni ENGLAND ENil.NI CARLSBAD differ from most of the Continental watering places In that whilst amusements and dis traction are properly provided for, th first consideration Is the "cure." It perrades and regulates ttf life of the town. It takes possession of you the moment you step from, one of the special trains from Paris, Berlin, Petersburg or Vienna, and you find your life arranged for you upon well-thought-out principles of health. You are not called upon to make any t-pecial effort, everybody Is doing: the name tbini?, you would find It an ef fort to do otherwise. You are required merely to fall Into line, the rest la done lor you. At your hotel you will not need to worry as to whether you may eat this or that, the kitchen Is under the con trol of and subject to Inspection at any time by the medical society of Carlsbad. As soon 'as It Is known you are a "Cure truest" you will only receive "cure-diet." Of course If you are on pleasure then It Is another matter. Is there too much starch In the bread you eatT If there were and the doctor dis. covered It. that bakery might be closed. Besides you have another protection. Your rolls are packed and appear at table. In a separate tissue paper bap with the composition of the bread printed on the back. Are you doubtful about the milk? There Is an Inspector stationed on every road leading Into Carlsbad, and it would not be good business for that dalrvman whose milk or butter were found wanting. Nor Is this inspection -nnfinwl merelv to dairy produce; fruit. vegetables, meat must all undergo, the strictest examination. And so throughout yow three or four weeks' stay, you will be unconsciously ih. Akii nf a thousand little atten-. .ook ih. result of centuries of experience and only exercised after that experience has proved mem to ue flclal to health. The season at Carlsbad this year i.rnmi, to be an exceptionally bril liant one. especially In regard to Amer ican and Knglish visitors. Never be rr. ai-cordinar to hotel keepers, have so many advance orders been received. As early as last Christmas rooms had K..n tiookod for the 1913 season. The fact Is that "Carlsbad has mad n,-h strides in the matter of rchitec tural and other improvements during the last two or three years that when It is made ready lor ins rusn ui iu season It presents a spic and span appearance that makes a special appeal to those two nations quite, apart from the Indubitable medicinal qualities of Its mineral waters. The Sprudel has been provided this year with a new marble basin and the gprudel Colonnade has been further em bellished under the direction of Profes sor Ohmann. of Vienna, with some very handsome carving work. A great many royalties are expected this year and given fine weather there la little doubt that many records will be broken. The changeless East Is still unchanged. But the hand of Modern ity has wrought some very desirable changes In hotel life and In the highly Important matter of railway transit.
