SUES OF OREGON WOOL IN THE EAST rreeeiit Situation, From Dealers' Standpoint, IS Satlslactory. Original wool sales at Boston in the past week for Oregon, Wyoming. New Mexico. Nevada. Arizona, Utah and Colorado Among the sales of graded stock Is that of 26.000 pounds of fine heavy territory at IT cents. Sales of original territory during the week Included 75.000 pounds of Arizona wool at prices ranging from 17 to 22 cents, a lot nf original Colorado wool at 20 cents, and 2OO.000 p.iunds of original New Mexican at 20 cents. Commenting on the outlook, the American Wool and Cotton Reporter says: Tno sentiment of the market is very cheerful, and considerable satisfaction Is being expressed by dealer, at the prevailing situation In wool trading. It Is practical y Impossible to conceive of a more favorable condition by which the wool trade could better meet the prospective adverse condi tions. The wool supply Is short and the prospects are that under the most unfavor able condition in the mills all the wool In the market will be taken up some time before the new clip is shorn and wool deal ers will take care not to liuy from the grow ers at prices that the manufacturer will be unable to pay. and the change to lower values will be at the expense of the wool grower." HOP PRICES AREJVITHOi;T CHANGE Iw Activity in the I.oral Market Condi tions Abroad. There was less activity In .the hop mar- ket vesterday. There was no subsidence of the demand and growers were as willing to sell as heretofore, but the buyers who have been operating lately And their time taken up now in taking In their recent purchases. The British Board of Agriculture has is sued the following official report on the trade-in the Borough during the week' end ing November 13: Business this week has been limited, the demand being slow, and sale, only effected by accepting lower price. TOUCHES 12 EARLY IN DAY Stock Market Relieved of Pressure by More Reassuring News From Abroad Improvement Jn Foreign Exchange. NEW YORK. Nov. 20. The erratic course of the money market today was reflected In operations In stocks, although quotations were appreciably steadier than was the case yesterday. Call money, opening at per cent, oulcklv advanced to 12 per cent' and renewals were made at 11 Dor cent, as com oared with 6 oer cent yesterday. After touching the high point the rate declined steadily, until before the close money wa offered at 3 per cent. There was some further calling in of loans, owing to the demand, of interior banks, and it was suggested also that window dress ing" for the expected call from the Con troller for a statement of the condition of National banks played a part in the action of the money market. The more urgent demands for fund, were quickly , satisfied, however, and during the last part of the day call loans were in small request. Time loan, hardened in sympathy with the movement of call money. The stock market was relieved of press. ure from abroad by more reesurrlng- news of the political situation, the foreign mar kets improved and there was a sympathetic advance - oo the home exchange at the opening. It was centered largely on the money market and when call loans rose to 12 per cent quotations fell off sharply for a time. with the easing of money, however, the market steadied and toward the close prices rose to the highest point of the day. The bond market was under pressure, with sorce large blocks of ehmi-spcculatlve Issues changing hands. Total sales, par value, $2,22i.000. United States bonds were unchanged on call. CLOSING STOCK. Bad Roads in the Country May Mean Life or Death Good roads mean to the farmer and town man what good streetcar service means to the city man cheap and rapid transportation all the year round. During the Winter months mud roads are impassable. The country doctor's fees are high because it takes him so long to make calls and his own health is in danger. Every breakdown, accident or injury to vehicle, beast or produce adds something to the high cost of living in the cities. Small, narrow-tired wagons,- instead of big auto freight trucks, are now being used, and the cost of transportation is therefore more than double what it ought to be. Roads built on Portland cement concrete base provide hard, - smooth surfaces and, therefore, cheap and rapid transporta tion. . - "Permament Construction" is a book published for all who wish to know how to manufacture Portland Cement Concrete and how to lay it properly. Follow the directions in this book, or see that your contractor does it, and you will be abso lutely certain of permanent improvements, which will not need to be replaced in your time. This book is mailed free. The Association of Western Portland Cement Manu facturers, Northwestern Bank Bldg., Portland, Or.
