Dressed ducks and geese were also In
sharp demand and cleaned up at firm prices
The best ducks brought 20 cents and No. 1

The live poultry market flattened out. as

Commenting on the outlook, the American
Wool and Cotton Reporter says:
Tno sentiment of the market is very
cheerful, and considerable satisfaction Is
being expressed by dealer, at the prevailing
situation In wool trading. It Is practical y
Impossible to conceive of a more favorable
condition by which the wool trade could
better meet the prospective adverse condi
tions. The wool supply Is short and the
prospects are that under the most unfavor
able condition in the mills all the wool In
the market will be taken up some time
before the new clip is shorn and wool deal
ers will take care not to liuy from the grow
ers at prices that the manufacturer will be
unable to pay. and the change to lower
values will be at the expense of the wool
grower."

NEW YORK. Nov. 20. The erratic course

were appreciably steadier than was the case
yesterday. Call money, opening at per

renewals were made at 11 Dor cent, as com

touching the high point the rate declined
steadily, until before the close money wa

There was some further calling in of loans,
owing to the demand, of interior banks, and
it was suggested also that window dress

request. Time loan, hardened in sympathy

Bad Roads in the Country
May Mean Life or Death
Good roads mean to the farmer and town man what good
streetcar service means to the city man cheap and rapid
transportation all the year round.
During the Winter months mud roads are impassable. The
country doctor's fees are high because it takes him so long to
make calls and his own health is in danger.
Every breakdown, accident or injury to vehicle, beast or
produce adds something to the high cost of living in the cities.
Small, narrow-tired wagons,- instead of big auto freight
trucks, are now being used, and the cost of transportation is
therefore more than double what it ought to be.
Roads built on Portland cement concrete base provide hard,
- smooth surfaces and, therefore, cheap and rapid transporta
tion. . -
"Permament Construction" is a book published for all who
wish to know how to manufacture Portland Cement Concrete
and how to lay it properly. Follow the directions in this
book, or see that your contractor does it, and you will be abso
lutely certain of permanent improvements, which will not need
to be replaced in your time. This book is mailed free.

facturers, Northwestern Bank Bldg., Portland, Or.
