The sketch stated that she was born In Kngland of American parents, and at the aue of three months came to this eountrv. Her maiden name was Kle.inor Merrnii. Her stage career b.-can in Boston In a production called Youth." Mrs. Cowper gave a list of various productions she had appeared In. She wrote four playa, which were produced on Broadway. They were; I'nirv Farm." "In I.ove." "A Broad way Favorite" and "A I-ast Rehearsal." Her attorneys say she had a good in come from royalties on these plays. She made iter first appearance on the stage In a Hoston theater in a play called Youth.'" in which the present Mrs. Catherine Clemmons llould e-ppeared. Afterward she. played in several of Charles Frohmnn's productions. Afford ing to her hlsiary. Mrs. Cowper was with "nnnl.i Havenport two seasons, and had this t- say of that engagement: She took an interest In me and pro moted me from a small part to that of leading" lady." Mrs. Cowper did not give the date ef her marriage, referring briefly to tie fact that her husband. Archibald Cowp r. was an actor, and that he died three years ago. Virtually her only home life was when she lived on the farm of James H. YValllck, at Middle town. X. V. -Mr. Wallick. who was 66 years old. collaborated with her in a number of the plays she wrote. Imitated IVallick's Suicide. Mr. Wallick committed suicide last April, and his tragic death seemed to have made a deep Impression upon Mrs. Cowper. He shot himself In the right temple. Mrs. Cowper tried to kill herself In identically the same manner today. The police endeavored to get Into telephone communication with Judge Koyce. of Middletow-n. and learned titat lie was on his way to Xew York, having received a letter from Mrs. Cowper saving that she intended to kill herself. He arrived at the hotel to rind the police In charge of the dy ing woman. In the letter that Mrs. o per wrotn to Judge Royce she asked him to notify her parents In Xew Hampshire of her death and to take charge of her body. She asked that her body be cremated. Trie police said that Mrs. Cowper was a prisoner, but she was not re moved from her apartmenfs at the ho tel, as the doctors said that she had small chance to live, and to take her to a hospital probably would hasten t lie end.
