Th, slo.:k market enjoyed a considerable period of atrength to day, but gaVe evidence during ths later stages of the adv. net of a reactionary ten dency, Ths sdvances were especially sharp In a number of usually inactive stocks, and tti. rather arratto Jumps which were forced ln these gave th. market an artificial aspect. which begot a spirit of caution In following ths movements. There were, besides, several conspicuous) movements ami ng th. Jndustrl.ls whlrh were almost wholly unresponsive to th. rlnlng tendency of prices. Itnlted States steel was ths notable example, although amal gamated copper'a heaviness slet was some what sympathetic The publication of a atatement from C. M. ffchwab, ex-presldcnt f tn4 i!nlled State, eteel Coiporatton, fully ooncurrlng with the views of Chairman Uary, published yester day on the astvlsablllty and probability of maintaining steel prices, did not havs the effect It was apparently Intended to have. There were reports aim, originating ln Lon don, that the selling aent of th. Amalgam ated Copper Company was- cutting prices In Ijondon. It Is Impossible to secure any of ficial Information of the acts of this com pany, but the reports are depressed copper se curities ln Paris. There was another re duction In the priro of copper quotations In 1-ondoo afid In the price of the metal at the New York lletal Exchange. - The early strength In th, market, outside of the speclaltln., which hava been referred to, waa traceable to ths Influence of the Erie financial settlement, the stock of that company and of I'nlon Pacific leading the movement. Prospects for a goodl bank statement had som. influence on the market, although the prevailing ease of money obscures th. Im portance of the weekly change to abm. ex tent. Th. promise Is for a gain In cash by the tanks of S5.000.000. Ths sensitiveness of the wheat market to some reports of damage to wheat In Kansas from dry weather was suKgeetlve of the Importanc which will st tach to that subject in the formation of spec ulative sentiment In ths future. A rise ln the private discount rats abroad was the feature of the day In tha Interna tional money markets. Bonds were firm. Total sales, par value, 14,278.000. Bonds are always good or bad investments, depending entirely upon the character of the assets that stand be hind ( them. The assets aro the sentinels of good bond investments. With a reputa ble trust company standing guard between the bond-buyer and the issuing company, the proposition is safe if tha assets are strong enough to protect the investor. There fore, it is apropos to ask, "What makes bonds good?" To be more pertinent, what makes OCEAN SHORE BONDS good? Remember few things. The road is 80 miles long, penetrating a country that is developing: with Unprecedented rapidity. The realty holdings of the company in all the cities be tween San Francisco and Santa Cruz, therefore, are certain to constantly increase the assets of the company. Over 30 miles of the road have been completed, en gines, cars and all other equipment have been pur ' chased, and that part of the road is in operation, earning money right now. The pros pective earning capacity of the road is amazing, approx imating, from the very start, $1,000,000 annually. These things make a railroad secure for all time. With real estate now owned, valued at over $2,000,000, with over $3,000, 000 already invested in con-, vertible assets, with the wealthiest citizens pf Cali fornia behind it, with $5, 000,000 of capital stock fully paid up, with the opportu nity richer than that of any other short line in the United States these things make the bonds of the OCEAN SHORE RAILWAY COM PANY good beyond the per adventure of a doubt. This investment invites you. Come in and buy these bonds at $92 cash, or $96 on terms of $16 down and $10 a month. You cannot lose. The profit from these bonds guarantees a steady income, payable di rectly to you, twice every year. We have investigated the entire proposition, and believe you will be as san guine as we are if you will call and talk it over with us.
