REPORTS ARE FAVORABLE Oregon TlcproriilalUo Tell of Kf forlM to Secure Warships. tetters received yesterday by the Chamber of Commerce from Senators Bourne and Kulton and Congressmen Ellis and Hlo' Indicate tliat the efforts of Oregon's Representatives in Congress to have a part of Rear-Admiral Evans' fleet visit Portland durlnjt the -Rose Festival will be successful. President Roosevelt has expressed his approval of the plan and the Navy Department has aUo made the statement that the fleet will probably be here in June. Senator Fulton writes that he has re coll tentative promiu that the squadron will be sent here: Senator Pourne has conferred with the Presi dent regarding It, and Congressmen Ellis and Hawley say they hope to be able to secure the presence of part of the fleet. Senator Bourne writes: 'The President expressed himself as being willing for such part of the fleet to visit Portlund as may be able with safety to cross the bar, but he would ; be guided by the judgment of Rear 1 Admiral Evans.
