Patrolman Riley proved his resource fulness yesterday morning by bringing a carload of passengers to the city from Kulton Park, despite the fact that the crew of the car said it could not be done. Riley got on top of the car and gripped the trolley, holding it firmly agrainst the wire, until he suc ceeded in bringing the-car to the city with Its heavy load of. workers. The novel sight was witnessed by lars;e numbers of people who wondered If one of Portland's policemen had sud- -denly gone insane. To see a man in full uniform standing on top of a car, pressing- the trolley' hard against a wire covered with icicles was some thing witnessed in Portland but once in a generation, and the feat caused much comment. Patrolman Riley formerly worked aa a streetcar man in the East, and re marked "i when he reached the police headquarters to report for duty that he was accustomed to this kind of weather.
