A splinter can be extracted without pain In this way: Nearly till a wide-mouthed bot tle with hot wnter, place the Injured part over the mouth and press tightly. The suction will draw tho llesh down, nml In a minute or two the Bpllntcr will cotno out. Spasmodic Croup. Every mother should know how to treat this, as the attacks come on so suddenly. The child should at once bo taken up and put Into n hot bath. A tensioonful of Ipecacu anha whit repeated If necessary Is often helpful ; this Is to make the child sick. Spasmodic croup Is of nervous origin, and the general condition of the child must be Improved. It Is often associated with rickets. Wash for tho Hair. For hair that Is dry nn oily wash should be used about once u week or oftener. It should bo rubbed Into tho scalp with n pleor of llaunel, a superfluity of oil thus being avoided, as only sulllclont Is used to moisten, not drown, tho roots of tho hair; the application of the oil must bo accompanied by friction with the llnnucl. It Is a mistake to suppose that dry hair will bo really beucllted by oil being poured on to It and mere ly brushed through It. To do perma nent good It Is necessary that tho fatty preparation should bo rubbed Into the skin of the head; a very small quan tity will sulllce to be of benefit, Tho Value of Salt. Half a teaspoon fill of common table salt dissolved In n little cold water will Instantly relieve heartburn or dyspepsia. If taken every morning before breakfast, Increasing the quantity gradually to a teaspoon fill of salt and a tumbler of water, It will In a few days cure any ordinary case of dyspepsia, If at tho same tlmo duo attention Is paid to tho diet. There is no letter remedy than tliu nlmvo for constipation. As a gargle for soro throats It Is equal to chlorate of pot ash, and Is entirely safe. In doses of one to four teasimonfuls In half n pint of tepid water It nets promptly as nn emetic, and In cases of poisoning Is al ways nt hand. It Is nn excellent rem edy for bites and stings of Insects. It Is nlso n valuable astringent In hem orrhages, particularly for bleeding after tho extraction of teeth. It has both healing nud cleansing properties. DRUMS AT FUNERALS. Wllllnm Triiinltitre Una Officiated n Oliaequloa of Nll.'l Noldlrr.
