A6 Hood River News, Saturday, May 9, 2015 O bituaries Paid notices Myrtle White Myrtle Marie White, 95, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Hawks Ridge Assisted Living in Hood River, Ore. Myrtle was bor n Sept. 16, 1919, in Speers Ferry, Va., to Zachariah F. Dills and A m a n d a Myrtle White Dills. She was preceded in death by her son Dale H. Goetz; and her grandsons Timothy Bai- ley and Dale A. Goetz. Myrtle is survived by her husband, Russell White, of Hood River; daughter Lillie Bailey, of Greenleaf, Idaho; her g randchildren Kim (Goetz) Anderson and Ann (Goetz) Senetar of Parker, Colo.; her grandson Art Bai- ley Jr., of Cheyenne Wyo.; and multiple great-grand- children. A funeral with reception following will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Following the reception, in- terment will be at Mountain View Cemetery, 1235 Tucker Road, Hood River. Myrtle’s family would like memorial donations to be given to Providence Hospice of the Gorge, 1630 Woods Court, Hood River, OR. 97031. Marylou Edgerton Marylou Alta Edgerton was born July 14, 1924 in Hood River, Ore., the only child of Bruce M. and Edna Billings. Her first years were spent living on the family homestead in Parkdale be- fore moving to Hood River. Marylou attended kinder- garten through her senior year in high school in Hood River, graduating from Hood River High School in 1942. After high school Marylou moved to Seattle, Wash., where her best friend and fu- ture husband, Robert (Bob), was already working for The Boeing Airplane Company. Marylou also went to work at Boeing in the summer of 1942 where she became one of the original “Rosie the Riveters,” and part of the “We Can Do It” generation. She worked on both the B-17 and B-29 air frames. After Bob entered the Army and was stationed in Philadelphia, she followed him there, obtaining employ- ment with the Ration Board. Marylou and Bob were mar- ried in Philadelphia on May 19, 1944. From Philadelphia, Marylou moved to New Or- leans, again following Bob to his next station. When Bob was sent to the Philippines, Marylou came back to Ore- gon, living in Portland, where they settled after Bob was discharged from the Army at the end of World War II. In 1948 Marylou and Bob moved to Silverton, Ore., to help her parents establish their flower and nursery business. Marylou and Bob had two children, first wel- coming Carol Joy in 1950 and then Robert Bruce in 1953. Marylou was very active in numerous local organiza- tions, including Jaycettes, VFW Auxiliary, Ramona Chapter Order of the East- ern Star, and The Oregon Garden. She finished her ca- reer working as a teacher’s aide at Evergreen School in Silverton. Marylou passed away April 8, 2015. She is survived by her son, Robert (Rob), and daughter- in-law Janene of Yamhill, and two grandchildren, Lisa Chau (Jimmy), of Portland, and Andrea Edgerton, of Bend. Marylou was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Edgerton, in 1988, and her husband, Robert, in 2007. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. May 12 at the Sil- verton United Methodist Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, re- membrances be made to the Silverton United Methodist Church, or The Oregon Gar- den. The Basalt Rock Café will host a special Moth- er’s Day Brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu features a burrito and waf- fle bar, with a selection of waffles, sausage, bacon, h a m , s c r a m b l e d e g g s, fresh fruit, home-fried potatoes, tortillas, salsa and cheese. They will share their exper tise on the plants that grow best in your area, and the impor- tance of landscaping with native plants to support the ecological integrity of the Gorge and to maintain the native plant popula- tion. Dick Stentz will conduct a bird watching tour on the grounds from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. You will have a chance to see the raptors of the Gorge on the glove and up close during the live raptor presentations at 11 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in the M. J. Mur- dock Theater. Ta ke a g u i d e d w i l d - flower identification walk at 12 noon and 3 p.m. with Barbara Robinson, and view some of the 100 species of native plants on the museum grounds. Bar- bara is one of the best in- formed experts on native plants in the gorge, and has been the director of the Native Plant Restora- tion project at the Discov- ery Center since 1997.
