www.hoodrivernews.com Hood River News, Saturday, May 9, 2015 A13 MDA raises over $13,000 during Lock Up event BY TRISHA WALKER News staff writer Community members helped raise critical funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during its Hood River Lock Up 2015, which took place on Thursday at Pietro’s Pizza. Kyle Ellerbe and Wally David, MDA fundraising co- ordinators, said the event raised approximately $13,200, with over 40 volun- teers “jailed.” Money raised will fund treatments and cures, pro- vide life-enhancing pro- grams, and send kids with muscle disease to MDA summer camp, with 77 cents per dollar going directly to client services. “The event was amaz- ing,” said Ellerbe. “We had amazing support from local individuals.” Off-duty firefighters with Hood River Fire and EMS “arrested” volunteers, dri- v i n g t h e m t o a n d f ro m Pietro’s, said Kip Miller, Hood River Fire and EMS volunteer coordinator. The volunteers then had to raise bail — donations for MDA — by calling family and friends.
