Mountain Film Fest April 24-26 Hood River Mountain Film Festival, aka “Best of the Fest,” returns April 24-26 at Skylight Drafthouse Theater and Pub, presented by Mr. Elive Productions. Tickets are $20 for 12 adventure, environmental and adrenaline short films, ranging from 3 to 26 minutes. The festival features films from Vancouver International Mountain Film Fes- tival and Banff Film Festival. Selections include “Caleb,” voted top kayaking film of 2014, “Dream,” by Gorge film- maker Skip Armstrong and filmed on the White Salmon River, and the featured film, “Sufferfest 2.” Photos by LisaAnn Kawachi PREPPING FOR FASHION The April 16 HRVHS Fashion Club spring show was a creative and financial success, reports club advisor Cathy Carter. Twelve club members displayed fashions they created, and helped about 20 youngsters who participated in fashion camps this month and in the fall. About 80 people at- tended the event, which raised $1,370 for the fund to assist the family of Lila May Schow, 4, who has cancer. The “fringe fashion- istas” from 2014 showed their styles, and the 2015 crew walked out in their new Tyvek tops and tutus – the tutus in honor of Lila May. The May 9 Tutu Trot at Mark Hatfield Trailhead is the next ben- efit for the Schow family. David Crowe performs May 2 Art of Movement April 25 Columbia Center for the Arts and Columbia Gorge Dance Academy are proud to present for the 10th year, “Art of Movement,” a celebration of local dance, returns on April 25 at Columbia Center for the Arts. “Art of Movement will celebrate with two performances at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 25. This event will showcase a wide range of dance and movement available in the Columbia Gorge. 2015 brings exciting new works from Columbia Gorge Dance Academy’s Company Dancers, Scarlet Thistle Tribal Dancers, Lindy Hop, Salsa, Hip Hop, Tap, perfor- mance Yoga and more. The evening will include special guests TriptheDark Dance Troupe and Gemini Salsa from Portland. Jazz fusion show May 21 Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum pre- sents Thirteen Moons, a concert with Mezcal Jazz Unit and GrayHawk Perkins, Thursday, May 21. The collabora- tion creates a unique fusion of jazz and Native American music. The culture a la carte Cajun dinner begins at 6 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Discovery Cen- ter, 5000 Discovery Drive, in The Dalles.
