Gorge Sinfonietta plays Feb. 20 The Columbia Gorge Sinfonietta pre- sents “The Bold, The Brilliant, and the Beautiful,” an exciting program of or- chestral music, including the Oregon pre- miere of “The Banner Saga Suite” by Austin Wintory, the lively second piano concerto by Dimitri Shostakovich, and Jo- hannes Brahms' lyrical masterpiece, Sym- Corin Parker phony #2. Featured soloist will be local musician Corin Parker. The concerts are Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. in The Dalles Civic Auditorium ballroom. Country Dance, potluck Feb. 14 The Second Saturday Country Dance returns on Feb. 14, from 7-10 p.m., at the Rockford Grange on Barrett Road in Hood River. The dance caller will be Sue Baker and the band will be the Mill Creek String Band. The potluck dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. with dancing from 7-9 p.m. All ages welcome and no partner is re- quired. All dance steps are walked through the first time. Enjoy an evening of Country Squares, Contras, Circle dances and a few Waltzes. The first activity in the com- munity is the “Pass The Pig” fundraiser, which will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17 be- ginning at 9 a.m. If you’re not familiar with Pass the Pig, let us set the por-scene.It works like this: A local business wishes to send a pig to you, and FFA members will show up with a baby pig. In order to get rid of the pig, the FFA asks for a $20 donation and the name of the business that you would like to send the pig to next. That business will then send the pig on to another busi- ness, and so on.
