www.hoodrivernews.com ENTERTAINMENT U pdate HRVHS benefit show postponed to Jan. 31 “On the Beat,” the benefit variety show scheduled for this weekend at Hood River Valley High school has been postponed, and a new location chosen. Miguel Vasquez, who is organizing the show for his Extended Application project, announced that the event will take place Saturday, Jan. 31, at Hood River Middle School. Current students and alumni are scheduled to perform; proceeds will benefit HRVHS music and theater programs. Onehum plans CD release show Jan. 14 at Hood River Library The new CD from Richard Tillinghast and Onehum is called "The Door Is Open." It features 14 new songs, with themes includ- ing thanking the mothers of this world, rejuvenation, re- birth, and getting lost on Onehum purpose under the North- western moon. The band features Richard Tillinghast on guitar, Tova Tillinghas on cello and Jason Russ on percussion. Hood River County Library, 502 State St., Hood River; 541-386-2535. ‘Braceros’ talk Jan. 31 Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum pre- sents “Braceros of the Pacific Northwest,” an evening presentation with Dr. Roberto de Anda, Saturday, Jan. 31, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The Bracero Program is a moving bilingual exhibition organized by the Smithsonian's Na- tional Museum of American History. It examines the ex- periences of bracero workers and their families, provid- ing rich insight into Mexican American history and his- torical background to today's debates on guest worker programs. Last year, owner Kathy Watson asked people to send in their memory, with recipes, of a trea- sured family recipe. Wat- son chose six and offers them every few weeks. Two Family Dinners are available for reservation this month: ■ Jan. 14: “An after- noon Quail Hunt in the Florida Panhandle” by David Hanson. A young man from the Atlanta suburbs goes hunting with a good friend who teaches him how to honor simple foods. Price per person is $25. ■ Jan 28: “My Mom, her Wake, and the Giant Sub Sandwich” by Sarah Sullivan. Since Sarah’s mom died unexpectedly last May, Sarah has spent hours poring over her cookbooks, remembering delicious family meals. The play will be directed by Judie Hanel. The play contains roles for 4 women and 2 men. MIKE (40-50s) a successful fertility doctor who escaped Margie’s South Boston neighborhood and not too eager to be reminded of his past.
