The duy was clear and beautiful,
with Just enough cool zephyrs from
the dark, blue ocean to make sailing
pleasant, and all on board 'enied to
! Jubilant and happy as they
watched the green, grassy shores of
the American continent gradually
fade from view, now the tall build
lng of New York looked like a mys
tic city suspended from the clear sky
above as they too gradually faded
away like a distant rainbow.
For the first six days nothing trans
pired to mar tlia pleasure of the vi.y
age. The time was mostly taken up
reading, writing, gaming, promenad
ing etc. I'.ut for the next two days
we were passing through what they
call Hellsland for the reason that
there Is always a rough si-a. arid a

emne sick. In fact it seemed that the
most of them had been drinking from
the same jug as none on board could j
walk straight, lu on the ninth day j
of our journey conditions were bet
ter and In the afternoon we landed
at docks In the Thames, about 2
miles below the city of London.

After our baggage was inspected,
we wtre transf-rred to a special train
running Into the city at St. I'ancross
statioti. Then came the scrambling
for Individual ownership of trunks,
suitcases etc. They had all been
thrown out on the platform In aeon
glotnt-r.ited mess ami each one had
to huut out his own or have a porter
do It by the names on them, and
with every person In a hurry, to say
the least, there was some confusion
for a while.
After getting 'r belongings we
were driven In a taxicab to a hotel
about three blocks from the liritlsh
Museum, where we made our head
quarters while In London.
London Is a wonderful and beauti
ful city of eight and one fourth mil
lion people. It lies on both sides of
the Thames, with many bridges over
und tunnels under the river. The
buildings are from three to tive
stories high ami quite uniform. The
streets are of various widths and
curve and wind around and many of
th'-in end at a square or nearly a cir
cle or circus as It is called. Only the
broader streets havetram cars, while
: the double deck horse and motor
cars run on the narrow ones. There
I are many sul) ways and one can go
to or from most any part of the city
I underground.
The places of Interest to visitors
are almost Inexhaustible; one may
spend weeks and months viewing t be
1 antiquities, gathered from nearly
all the countries of the world, such
i as sculptures, works of art and ob

spend much rl:ne visiting the parks
and different buildings from the pris
on to the palaces, the cathedrals
and the many different museums and
historic spots from Pickens' old cur
