Robert Charles Hannou of South Wludsor, Conn., who recently made the claim that Mrs. Mary Baker F.ddy had designated lira as her successor as leader of the Christian Science church, persists thnt his statement Is true. but he has taken no active steps to gain the place. After giving out his first statement Mr. nannon, who has long been Identified with Christian Sclenca, made a second statement In BOBKBT CHABLES HANNON. which he declared that Mrs. Eddy died eighteen months ago and that lu the few public appearances she was sup posed to have made since thnt time she has been personated by other wo men. Mr. Hannon asserta that the men and women who have been closest to Mrs. Eddy arranged the deception and carried It out He says he hopes soon to have absolute proof of the truth of bis statement. The belief that Mrs. Eddy has been dead for many months, possibly for several years, has many adherents. Several yenrs apo the story wns pub lished, and at that time a meeting was arranged between Mrs. Eddy and rep resentatives of the press. The meet ing took place In Mrs. Eddy's home In Concord, N. H., but It wns sur rounded by so much mystery and was under such conditions thnt It was not convincing. Some of the reporters who were present were sure that the pale, fragile woman they saw for a few moments was Mrs. Eddy; others said It might have been some other woman. At any rate, the demonstration did not have the effect that the guardians of Mrs. Eddy hoped It would have, and the story that the aged woman's death had been concealed continued to be heard. Adjudged Insane Jacob Hill, an aged resident of the valley, was adjudged Insane by the county court Monday and committed to the state asylum at Salem.
