Hamilton nnd daugh ters have moved to Stevenson for the winter, to look after some of their property there. The S. P. & S. are at last complet ing the side track to the I'nlon ware house and the apples can now he loaded direct Into the car. W. F. Cash, the manager of the Apple rowers' I'nlon, was In Port land a couple of days this week on business connected with the I'nlon. The business of the I'ntlerwood livery Is still Increasing and the equipment Is ltelng constantly added to In order to take, care of the busi ness. P. I. Packard, who has been quite 111 In Portland, was able to return to Fnderwood Saturday. His sister, Mrs. W. H. Morrow, Is down with typhoid, but Is getting along as well as can lie eected. The Apple (irowcrs' warehouse Is now about completed and the Fnlon expects to Is'gln handling apples by the '.1)th. The apples are exception, ally fine this year and the growers are all feeling good. The I'mlerwood school opened this week, with Prof. Hedrlck as princi pal and Miss Oenle McAshland as sistant. The building has Is-en re modeled and arrangements made for a regular high school course. MOSIER Mrs. (i. H. Korden made a flying trip to Hood Itlver Friday. MIhs Seliua Vlckers, of The Dalles, Is visiting her cousin, Maude Evans. A. P. Batebatu returned Wednes day from" a business trip to Port land. Paul Hlghley left Saturday for Kelso, Washington, where he has employment. Kev, Keller, of White Salmon, was here the better pari of the week looking over the church work. It. L. Hunt, of Kansas, arrived Saturday and Is visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs. E. J. Hlghley. Mrs. lxe Kvans Is again very serl ouslyly 111 at her home south of town. Her many friends hope for a speedy recovery. Mrs. N. P. Sturgtss went to Port land Wednesday to visit her sons, Hoy and (ieorge. She expects to Ik? absent about a week. Huss Huskey returned from the valley Tuesday, where he has sent the past two weeks with his brother (ieorge, who has Urn In poor health, but has recovered. MIbs lone Splawn, of I'ortland, came up Friday evening to visit Mrs. K. W. Davldhlzar and other friends. Miss Splawn was teacher In district No. 8 six years ago anil she sees many changes nnd Improvements In that time. The funeral services of Frank Rob erts were held last Tuesday In the Christian chnrch, Kev. Clark ofllclat tng. Mr. UolH-rts had made this his home for about fifteen years, and his many friends were horrified when the news cnme that he had commit ted suicide. A note left by htm gave the reason: "I'm tired of life. It's not worth while." He leaves a mother, sister nnd two brothers at Hood Klver, a half brother In Welser nnd a brother whose whereabouts are unknown, to mourn his untimely death, "willow flat" Mr. Gentry has gone to keep bach elor's hall on his homestead. H. Hill and Mr. Gentry attended the harvest dance In Pine Grove last week. The "Jolly Boys and Girls" held n business meeting at the home of Miss IhhU'I Snider Saturday evening. A social will be given at.the home of Mrs. Frank Massee Saturday even ing. Sept. 24th. Refreshments will be served. A cordial Invitation is extended to all. The Apple Land & Orchard Co.'s well drill, which had grown to be a familiar object on the Flat, has moved Into the lower valley, on Billy Sunday's land. Mrs. Paul Hansen Invited all pa trous of the school to spend tin1 even ing at her home nnd meet Mix Lam bert, our new teacher. Those present passed a very pleasaut evening. The Prlscllla Club held an enjoy able meeting with Mrs. Hagt-n last week. Officers were elected for the coming year as follows: PresMtt, Mrs. H. E. Ited field; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. O..H. Hill.
