The group showcases tunes from the Big-Band Era, plus other styles of music. “Delicious hors d’oeuvres will be provided by local restaurants,” Flood said. The Aberdeen Elks Lodge formed an orchestra in 1912 and later a march- ing band. The swing band was formed in 1948 and its musicians played at Elks’ national conventions. The name Dukes of Swing was adopted in tribute to Duke Ellington. The group includes pro- fessional musicians, among them high school music teachers — and their former students, some who gradu- ated long ago. Several of its musicians have played into their 90s. The group has also opened for Manhattan Trans- fer and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
