3B THE DAILY ASTORIAN • FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2018 Astoria Lioness Club helps Wishing Tree with holiday gift effort Get to know your local law enforcement: Enjoy Coffee with a Cop on Wednesday The Daily Astorian Officers from the Asto- ria Police Department host Coffee with a Cop at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Blue Scorcher Bakery, 1493 Duane St. It’s a chance for police and community members to come together in an informal, neu- tral space to discuss commu- nity issues, build relation- ships and drink coffee. The program aims to advance the practice of com- munity policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members, one cup of coffee at a time. All in the community are welcome to come and ask questions, and learn more about the police depart- ment’s work in Astoria’s neighborhoods. “We hope that commu- nity members will feel com- fortable to ask questions, bring concerns or simply get to know their officers,” Sgt. Christopher McNeary said. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.” Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. SELF-HELP GROUPS Astoria Lioness Club The Astoria Lioness Club made 1,000 Wishing Bells for the Clatsop County Christmas Wishing Tree Program. The Daily Astorian The Astoria Lioness Club recently completed a project for the Christmas Wishing Tree Pro- gram in Clatsop County by cutting out and pre- paring over 1,000 Wishing Bells for the local gift program for children. The program puts the bells in local banks, credit unions and at Fred Meyer for customers to select and purchase gifts for children. The Astoria Lioness Club also supports Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Oregon State Library Talking Books, Camperships at Camp Toloali, Clatsop Community Action Regional Food Bank and Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. New members are always welcome. The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of every month, except December, at Dooger’s Seafood & Grill, 103 U.S. Highway 101 in Warrenton. Art show benefits Wildlife Center of the North Coast Artist Reba Owen’s annual Halloween Show runs through Oct. 31, and during the Second Saturday Art Walk, at Table 360 Bakery & Bistro, 1184 Commercial St. All proceeds go to the Wildlife Center of the North Coast.
