Astoria Rotary selects Rotary Students of the Month during the school year from juniors and seniors from Asto- ria and Knappa high schools. To be selected, students must be in good standing in school, and involved in community and school activities. Hemsley, the daughter of Wendy Hemsley, is in the Art Club, studies French, and has been involved with var- sity basketball, golf, and track throughout high school. She plans to attend Portland State University to study psychiatry. Larsen, the son of Brandy and Ryan Larsen, is involved A Purification Service at Common Ground Interspiritual Fellowship is held on the first Sunday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Wesley Room of the Astoria First United Methodist Church, 1076 Franklin Ave. Use the 11th Street entrance. This service is not defined by any partic- ular belief system, and is especially intended for the “spiritual but not religious,” as well as those who draw from morse than one faith tra- dition. He is also involved with theater and the new Robotics Club at school. He plans to attend col- lege to study math or music. Students selected for Rotary Students of the Month receive a leadership book selected by Astoria Rotary members, an application for a Rotary Schol- arship, an inspirational letter from a local Rotarian, a gift card to a local coffee establish- ment, and a Rotary certificate.
