3B THE DAILY ASTORIAN • FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2018 Students receive Rotary scholarships from crab dinners The Daily Astorian The Astoria Rotary Club serves crab dinner and whiskey crab soup at the Astoria Seafood and Wine Festival annually to raise money for local high school scholarships. This year, the club reached the goal of giving $8,000 to both Asto- ria and Knappa high school students, which set a new record of giving for the club. The following scholar- ship winners are students who demonstrated not only school achievement, but also met the club’s mission of “Service above Self.” Warrenton Kia donated $2,300 to the Chief Petty Officers Association. Warrenton KIA donates to CPOA The Daily Astorian WARRENTON — Warrenton Kia donated $2,300 to the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA). The money was raised from the sales of every new 2018 Kia sold between May 15 and June 15. The CPOA serves Coast Guard and other military active duty and reserve members, veterans, their families and their communities. Through their network of over 10,000 members, CPOA works to advance the interests of their membership through community service, scholarships and fundraising, and by partnering with military and veterans’ organizations, both locally and nationally. Knappa High School: Paris Vanderburg, $2,500. Astoria High School: Matthew Grauff, $1,375; Sarah Lertora, $1,375; Mea- gan Schacher, $1,375; and Itsamar Benitez Irizarry, $1,375. At the 2018 Astoria Sea- food and Wine Festival, Astoria Rotary sold over 700 crab dinners and nearly 500 bowls of whiskey crab soup, which will fund an additional $2,000 in scholar- ships, a total of $10,000 for graduating seniors in 2019. Rotary scholarship appli- cations can be picked up at the of Astoria and Knappa high school guidance offices. Seaside High School reunion for classes of 1950 to 1960 planned The Daily Astorian SEASIDE — A joint reunion of Seaside High School classes of 1950 through 1960 takes place at the Seaside American Legion, 1315 Broadway, at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 15. All alumni and their families are welcome to attend. The event includes a dinner of prime rib or salmon, music of the 1950s and 1960s by local songstress Alena, danc- ing and renewing old friend- ships. For those who like to sing, a karaoke time is hosted by Marc Kan to end the evening. The cost is $35 per per- son, which covers dinner, the venue and entertainment.
