Class leads to boater education card Writing workshop
WARRENTON — Coast
Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 62,
in partnership with the Ore-
gon State Marine Board, will
teach a mandatory boater
education class that results
in a boater education card.
The class will be held
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday,
April 27, at the First Baptist
Church of Warrenton (30
N.E. First St.). Class
registration starts at 8:15 a.m.
The cost for the class,
which includes the manual,
is $10.
The course covers practi-
cal boating safety informa-
tion and local boating rules
and regulations, as well as
tips and techniques for mak-
ing boating more enjoyable.

There will also be a section
on cold-water survival.
Students who complete
the course may apply for
their boater education card,

required by Oregon and
Washington’s mandatory
boater education programs.
All Oregon boaters 12 and
older must carry their boater
education card when operat-
ing power boats greater than
10 horsepower. Youth 12 to
15 must have a card to operate
a boat under 10 horsepower
and must be supervised by
a card-holding adult (16
years of age, 18 years
for personal watercraft
operators) when operating
power boats greater than
10 horsepower.
You can be cited a
hefty fine for not having a
card. The boater education
card will also save money
on boat insurance.

racity in Fact and Fiction”
writing workshop in Astoria
that will dive into the chal-
lenges, questions, dilemmas
and obligations writers face
when writing memoirs, fic-
tion, essays, scripts poems,
social media posts, even
journalism.
Love will guide partic-
ipants through a series of
writing prompts, surveys,
short readings and discus-
sions that compel writers to
examine their time-honored
or newly acquired beliefs on
the rules and responsibilities
of truth-telling with their
words, if indeed there are
any rules and responsibili-
ties.
The workshop takes place
in a private home. The class
costs $65 and will cap at 15
participants. Participants
will pay at the beginning of
the workshop. Scholarships
are also available. Barter is
accepted as well. To register,
