The Oregon Symphonic Band is the state’s premier symphonic band, based in Portland. It was originally formed in 1986 to allow local pro- fessional and expert amateur musicians (many of them music teachers and band directors) to play challenging wind ensemble music. The award-winning band is composed of 65 brass, woodwind and percussion musicians. They all volunteer to play together for their love of music. These passionate musicians are some of the area’s best professional and amateur instru- mentalists. For its Clatskanie program, the band will perform “Spy Ring” by Richard L. Saucedo; “Swirling Prisms” by Brian Balmages; “Seas of the Moon” by Robert Buckley; highlights from “Beauty and the Beast” by Alan Menken and ar- ranged by John Moss; “Tuba Tiger Rag” featuring Mark Vehrencamp on tuba by Harry DeCosta and arranged by Luther Henderson; “Bright Nights, City Lights” by Paul Hart. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors 60 and older and students; $6 for children 12 and under. Any band student will be admitted for free. Tickets are available at clatskaniearts.com or at the door beginning at 2:30 p.m. the day of the concert. For more information, visit the website or call 503-728-3403. This performance is sponsored by Mike Arthur Machine Service.
