Astoria Warming Center — 1076 Franklin Ave. Winter overnight emergency shelter for homeless persons needs volunteers for three-hour shifts from evening through the night to help with welcoming guests, serving dinner, cleaning the kitch- en, monitoring the sleeping area overnight, and closing the shelter in the morning. Astoria United Methodist Astoria United Methodist The Fourth Sunday of Advent, Sunday, is celebrated at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St., at 10 a.m. The Christmas Eve services with Holy Communion and special music include a family ser- vice at 5 p.m., and a candle- light service at 10 p.m. On Christmas Day, Mon- day, there is a worship service with Holy Communion at 10 a.m. St. Mary, Star of the Sea For nine days before Christmas, Dec. 15 to 23, the Hispanic community gathers each night at 6:30 p.m. at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Cath- olic Church for a Posada, a remembering of the journey of Joseph and Mary to Beth- lehem. The gathering begins with a rosary at the church, then moves to the St. Mary, Star of the Sea School auti- torium for music, food and entertainment for the chil- dren. All are welcome.
