versalist Fellowship holds a ser-
vice at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Per-

The service is devoted to Christ-
mas carols. Barbara Bate accom-
panies on the PAC concert grand
piano. Chilren are welcome;
there is a story and religious edu-
cation class for them. Coffee and
treats are served after the service.

Astoria Veteran Van Drivers
— Volunteer drivers needed for
the Disabled American Veterans
van for one or more trips per
month. The van leaves Astoria
at 7 a.m. for the Portland Veter-
ans Administration Hospital and
returns in the early afternoon. To

net. Drivers receive free breakfast
and lunch vouchers for the hospi-
tal canteen on every trip.
Astoria Warming Center

overnight emergency shelter
for homeless persons needs
volunteers for three-hour shifts
from evening through the night
to help with welcoming guests,
serving dinner, cleaning the kitch-
en, monitoring the sleeping area
overnight, and closing the shelter
in the morning. Volunteers also
needed for weekly litter patrols in

ing Youth (CADY) Mentoring

Clatsop Care Center — Vol-

meals to provide one-on-one as-
sistance to dining dependent resi-

Clatsop Community Action
Regional Food Bank — Volun-
teers needed to help hand out
fruits and vegetables at the week-
ly produce pantries for two hours
on Thursdays, from April to Octo-
ber, in Seaside and Warrenton.
Warehouse attendants are need-
ed for food packing or processing,
picking orders for agencies, light
janitorial and housekeeping, or
lawn and grounds maintenance.
Three to four-hour shifts are avail-
able Monday through Friday. To

Clatsop County Public Works

volunteers needed to remove litter
two times (minimum) per year for
two years. Safety equipment and
supplies provided. Volunteers must

Emergency
Response Team — CERT vol-
unteers needed for community
events and disaster response with
local police, fire and emergency
medical service agencies. Training
includes fire safety, first aid, traffic
and crowd control, communica-
tions, damage survey, disaster

the reading of each paragraph
of the Christmas Story, clos-
ing with “Silent Night” per-
formed by candlelight. Music
includes hand bells, a perfor-
mance by Three Wise Women
(Kim Angelis, Jennifer Good-
enberger and Shelley Loring),
and a solo by Phil Keim. Rev.

holds an intergenerational
Christmas Eve Morning Ser-
vice at 11 a.m. Sunday, with
traditional Christmas music
offerings including a young
pianist solo, a violin and
recorder duet, and a medley
using organ, piano and clar-
inet. There are also Christ-
mas carols, an in-service craft
table for children and refresh-
ments after the service.

Eve services on Sunday. The
Family Christmas Eve service
is at 4:30 p.m. Crèche figures
are used to tell the Nativity
Story, and there are Christmas
carols and the Holy Eucharist.
The second service is preceded
by a time of carol singing with
the choir at 10:30 p.m.; the
Midnight Service begins at 11
p.m, and also features the choir
and Holy Eucharist.

Day, a Morning Prayer service

St. Mary, Star of the
Sea
For nine days before
Christmas, Dec. 15 to 23, the
Hispanic community gathers
each night at 6:30 p.m. at St.
Mary, Star of the Sea Cath-
olic Church for a Posada, a
remembering of the journey
of Joseph and Mary to Beth-
lehem. The gathering begins
with a rosary at the church,
then moves to the St. Mary,
Star of the Sea School auti-
torium for music, food and
entertainment for the chil-
dren. All are welcome.
On Sunday, the schedule is
as follows: Morning Masses
at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m., and
a Bilingual Mass at 1 p.m.,
at St. Mary, Star of the Sea;
a Nativity Mass at 4 p.m. at
St. Francis de Sales, 867 Fifth
Ave. in Hammond; a Chil-
dren and Family Mass at 7
